ATTACHMENT C - SUSPECT/COUNTERFEIT ITEMS INFORMATION SOURCE LIST<br />

A wide variety of industry and Government sources publish information relative to suspect/counterfeit<br />

products. The following sources provide information which is available on a continuing basis:<br />

Industrial Fasteners Institute (IFI)<br />

The following information is available feom IFH via subscription:<br />

"Fastener Application Advisory" (Published Monthly)<br />

"North American Manufacturers Identification Markings for Fasteners"<br />

Fastener-related video cassettes.<br />

The National Board of Pressure Vessel Inspectors (NBBI)<br />

The NBBI publishes "National Board Bulletins" to alert manufacturers and users of<br />

misrepresented products as they are discovered.<br />

National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA)<br />

The NHTSA's Office of Defects Investigation issued a "Suspect Bolt List" in late 1990<br />

identifying numerous fasteners, which they determined to be misrepresented.<br />

Trade Journals and Magazines<br />

There are numerous trade-oriented magazines which have carried articles identifying incidents of<br />

failure of substandard parts in industry applications which have caused personal injury and death,<br />

as well as serious property damage.<br />

Newspaper and Television. Reports<br />

Another good source of information are news reports, which provide current accounts of<br />

probllems encountered as a result of misrepresented products.<br />

U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC)<br />

The NRC issues bulletins, notices, and regulatory guidance on a continuing basis to alert nuclear<br />

power utilities of potential intrusion of misrepresented products into the operations environment<br />

of operating nuclear power plants.<br />

U.S. Department of Defense (DOD) and U.S. Department of Commerce publications are also<br />

monitored by the DOE to assure that - the , deficiencies. identified do not contaminate DOE<br />

facilities-<br />
