12 VILLAGE ORDINANCES & REGULATIONS * Information about the Village and all services, programs, and operations can be found on the Village of Buffalo Grove web site at www.vbg.org. The web site offers information from the Village’s Municipal Code, copies of maps, minutes and agendas for all boards, commissions, and committees. Ga r b a G e, re C y C l i n G & ya r d W a s T e Pi C k u P Buffalo Grove residents have one pickup per week of regular landscape materials, refuse and recyclables. An additional pickup of refuse can be arranged by residents for an additional charge. Buffalo Grove recycles the following items: • Paper Materials–newspapers, magazines, phone books, catalogs, Chipboard cartons (i.e. cereal or cracker boxes), business mail, office paper, brown bags–Kraft paper and corrugated cardboard (flattened and large boxes cut into 2’ squares). • Plastic Type Materials–all types noted 1-7 on containers and 6-pack & 12-pack back bands. • Metal & Glass Materials–all cans (aluminum or steel/zinc), aerosol cans, all glass containers and aluminum foil (cleaned of all food material). • Non-Recyclable Materials–juice boxes, auto/truck batteries, motor oil, pizza boxes, paper food cartons (take-out containers), window glass, drinking glasses, gable-top containers (milk or juice containers), plastic bags and polystyrene/styrofoam. (For information on pickup days and additional service, contact Waste Management Northwest at 1-800-964-8988). From April 1 through November 30, yardwaste pickup is added to the once a week refuse/recycling schedule. The State of Illinois requires that yardwaste be contained in garbage cans marked with an “X” or paper recycling bags. Plastic bags cannot be used. Pa r k i n G re s T r i C T i o n s Parking is not permitted on Buffalo Grove residential streets from 2:00 a.m - 6:00 a.m., unless permission is received in advance from the Police Department. To request permission for overnight parking, call the Police Department’s administrative number at (847) 459-2560. A parking ban is in effect on all streets after a 2-inch snowfall, until snow has been completely removed. sP r i n k l i n G re s T r i C T i o n s Lawn sprinkling restrictions are in effect from May 15th until September 15th. Sprinkling is allowed on an even/odd schedule according to your address, except during the period from 12:00 noon - 6:00 p.m. Sprinkling is not allowed during that 6 hour period. li Ce n s e s Dog and cat licenses are required by the Village for animals over 4 months of age. Yearly tags are available at the Village Hall and proof of Rabies Vaccination is required. Cu r f e W A State Law regarding curfew is in effect for children under the age of 17. Curfew hours are: Sunday-Thursday 11:00 p.m. - 6:00 a.m. Friday & Saturday 12:00 Midnight - 6:00 a.m. Please note: The driver’s license of a child under the age of 17 is invalid after curfew. This is an arrestable offense. sm o k i nG ba n Illinois State law prohibits smoking in all enclosed public places and places of employment. Smoking regulations are not regulated in a private dwelling unit, unless the dwelling is also used as a licensed childcare, adult care facility, health care facility, nursing, long term care or assisted living facility. The regulations set forth that it is unlawful to smoke within 20 feet of an open air dining area; within 20 feet of any public entrance; and within 20 feet of an operable window or ventilation air intake. For further information about the law, please contact the Village Manager’s Office. Ca r b o n mo n o x i d e al a r m de T e C T o r s re q u i r e d in eve r y ho m e Effective January 1, 2007, the State legislature passed the Illinois carbon Monoxide Alarm Detector Act, requiring every dwelling unit in Illinois to have at least one approved carbon monoxide alarm in an operating condition within 15 feet of every room used for sleeping purposes. Alarms can be battery powered, plug-in with battery back-up or wired into the AC power line with a secondary battery back-up. If a structure contains more than one “dwelling unit,” an alarm must be installed within 15 feet of every sleeping room in each “dwelling unit.” The owner must supply and install all required alarms. A landlord must ensure that the alarms are operable on the date of initiation of a lease. The tenant is responsible for testing and maintaining the alarm after the lease commences.
