Annual report Chair on Drinking Water Engineering 2008 - TU Delft

The first year of Drinking Water Engineering and Science
2008 was the first -and a good- year for Drinking Water Engineering and Science (DWES), the first open access
journal on drinking water treatment.
On December 14 th 2007 the web site of DWES, www.drinking-water-engineering-and-science.net went online.
On January 4 th 2008 the first two papers from our own research groups were received and on January 30 th
2008 the first paper from Japan.
In 2008 18 papers were submitted to DWES Discussion (the first stage of the journal) of which eight are currently
in review and six were rejected in the access review for different reasons. Four papers have completed
the review process and have been published in DWES and can be downloaded for free by everyone around
the world.
In 2008 the editorial board was expanded and now consists of 15 topical editors from all over the world: France,
China, India, South-Africa, Switzerland, Singapore, Japan, Latvia, Korea, Germany, Zimbabwe, the UK and
the Netherlands.
In 2009 we continue to aim to be the leading open access scientific journal for the publication of original research
in drinking water treatment and distribution. The focus is on fundamental and applied research in water quality,
quantity and pressure. DWES expects to serve academic scientists and users of newly developed knowledge
working at knowledge centers (universities and research centers), water supply utilities and companies, and
engineering consulting firms. Prof. Gary Amy and prof. Hans van Dijk are the editors-in-chief.
In 2009 don’t hesitate to check the papers in discussion every now and then and give your comments on the
papers! We look forward to receive your own work and to offer you high quality scientific information on drinking
water treatment.
