The final Stanley Kubrick film about a man (Tom<br />

Cruise) who discovers a sexual underworld after his<br />

wife (Nicole Kidman) tells him of her fantasies and<br />

previous sexual encounters. Depiction of ephebophilia<br />

(sexual attraction of adults to adolescents), orgies, sexual<br />

rituals, exhibitionism, prostitution, infidelity, sexual<br />

fantasy, seduction, and betrayal. Mythological and<br />

Jungian psychology themes are omnipresent.<br />

Far From Heaven (2002) Drama ΨΨΨ<br />

Julianne Moore, living in a conservative area in<br />

a conservative time, finds out her husband is a<br />

homosexual. Interesting film that explores racism,<br />

stereotypes, and secrets.<br />

Fellini Satyricon (1970) Historical ΨΨΨΨ<br />

Controversial Fellini film about the decadence of<br />

ancient Rome. The film is visually stunning and<br />

explores human vices ranging from homosexual<br />

pedophilia to cannibalism. The film can be a<br />

springboard for a discussion of hedonism.<br />

Female Perversions (1996) Drama ΨΨΨ<br />

Confused and often confusing examination of the<br />

relationship between women, power, sexuality, and<br />

psychopathology. Based on a scholarly book with<br />

the same title by psychoanalyst Louise J. Kaplan.<br />

Fetishes (1996) Documentary ΨΨΨ<br />

True examination of the clients of Pandora’s Box,<br />

an elite club catering to the sexual fetishes of New<br />

York City.<br />

Fist in His Pocket (1966) Drama ΨΨΨ<br />

Italian film about a dysfunctional family with multiple<br />

examples of psychopathology including epilepsy,<br />

murder, and incest.<br />

Flawless (1999) Drama/Comedy ΨΨ<br />

Philip Seymour Hoffman plays a drag queen<br />

named Rusty who is saving money for a gender<br />

modification operation; Robert DeNiro is the<br />

homophobic neighbor who takes voice lessons<br />

from Rusty following a stroke.<br />

Fried Green Tomatoes (1991) Comedy/Drama ΨΨΨ<br />

Presents a positive, healthy, loving view of an<br />

(assumed) lesbian relationship. We are quickly<br />

caught up in the complex and intertwined story of<br />

these two women.<br />

Girl 6 (1996) Drama/Comedy Ψ<br />

Spike Lee film about a woman who takes a job as<br />

a phone sex operator for the money.<br />

God’s Little Acre (1958) Drama Ψ<br />

Buddy Hackett and Michael Landon star in this<br />

adaptation of Erskine Caldwell’s tale of depravity<br />

and Georgia farm life.<br />

Good Mother, The (1988) Drama ΨΨΨ<br />

A provocative film in which Diane Keaton plays the<br />

divorced mother of a six-year-old daughter. Keaton<br />

falls in love with an iconoclastic artist, who allows<br />

the daughter to touch his penis when she sees him<br />

in the bath and expresses normal childhood curiosity.<br />

Keaton is eventually forced to denounce her<br />

new lover in order to maintain a relationship with<br />

her daughter.<br />

Joe: “Hooker. You know, the kind<br />

Cultures clash in Happiness<br />

Happiness (1998) Comedy/Drama ΨΨΨ<br />

Disturbing dark comedy portraying a variety of<br />

quirky characters. The most striking are the<br />

pedophiliac psychiatrist who rapes his son’s best<br />

friend and Philip Seymour Hoffman as a man who<br />

is obsessed with telephone scatalogia. Director<br />

Todd Solondz has a cameo as a doorman.<br />

Harold and Maude (1972) Comedy ΨΨΨ<br />

A cult film that examines sexual and romantic<br />

attraction across generations; this movie will<br />

force you to reexamine your feelings about age<br />

and death.<br />

Henry & June (1990) Drama ΨΨ<br />

Adaptation of Anais Nin diary detailing her<br />

ménage à trois with novelist Henry Miller and his<br />

wife June.<br />

Holy Smoke (1999) Drama ΨΨΨ<br />

Jane Campion film about a family who believes<br />

their daughter (Kate Winslet) is under the power of<br />

a cult leader. They hire a renowned “cult exiter”<br />
