BOB WHITMAN
Fullback, Layton, Utah,Junior, Ht: 6-0, Wt: 195, Born 6-8-53, Layton
High School.
AT UTAH: Bob suffered a shoulder injury during last season and
didn't play much. Before his injury he had looked extremely good at
the running back spot. During spring, with a healthy shoulder Whitman
ran well at tailback, but coaches have decided that he has the talent to
play fullback and will move him there for fall playing time. Whitman
is a smart player and is very rugged. He has good speed and is not
afraid to stick his head in there for the extra yard.
HIGH SCHOOL: A top athlete at Layton High School, Bob earned
nine letters in four sports (football, basketball, track, tennis). He was
an all-region and all-area selection in football and was captain of the
track team, where he pole vaulted, hurdled and ran the 100 yard dash.
He led his team to second place instate in 1970. Bob was also a member
of the honor roll and National Honor Society at Layton.
PERSONAL: Whitman is majoring in business management and hopes to
get an MBA and go to Law School. He is a returned missionary for
the LDS Church and is married to the former Wendy Warner. His
father Robert M. Whitman graduated from Utah in 1948 where he
participated in track.
ROLAND YOUNGLING
Offensive tackle, Tucson, Arizona, Senior 1VL, Ht: 6-2, Wt: 235,
Born: 1-23-53, Palo Verde High School.
AT UTAH: Roland was moved from center to offensive tackle this
spring. He has the strength and size to become an excellent offensive
tackle but needs experience at that position. Roland has worked hard
in the weight room to put on some bulk that will come in handy when
going against defensive tackles this year. He has developed into a fine
pass blocker as well as being able to open the hole for the tough yard.
HIGH SCHOOL: Won three letters each in football and basketball.
Team was city champs in basketball. Was named to all-city football
team. Played junior college football at Eastern Arizona. Was allconference
center sophomore year.
PERSONAL: Father played football and basketball at University of
Arizona, is a pharmacutical representative. Majoring in urban recreation
and parks administration, would like to be an urban recreational leader.
