More than 800 studejnts, the<br />
largeat class ever, will join the<br />
alumni ranks at Madonna University's<br />
commencement at 10:30<br />
a.m. Saturday in Calihan Hall at<br />
the University of Detroit Mercy<br />
Of the graduates, 87 will<br />
receive a master's degree, 660<br />
will receive a bachelor's degree,<br />
and the remainder either an<br />
associate's degree or certificate.<br />
Madonna University's vice<br />
president for Planning and Mission<br />
Effectiveness, the<br />
Francis S. Tebbe, will preside<br />
over the commencement ceremonies.<br />
Sister Ann Stamm, professor<br />
and chairperson of religious<br />
studies and philosophy, will give<br />
the invocation.<br />
A reception hosted by Madonna<br />
University President Sister<br />
Mary Francilene will be^eld in<br />
the Residence Hall dining room<br />
after Mass.<br />
Three people will receive honorary<br />
degrees, including Leo J.<br />
Brennan Jr., vice president and<br />
executive director of the Ford<br />
Motor Company Fund; Mary A.<br />
Lyons, president of Lyons Tool &<br />
Engineering; and William C.<br />
Stokoe, professor emeritus of<br />
Gallaudet University<br />

after her husband died.<br />
A graduate of Alliance College,<br />
Walsh Institute.and Wayne<br />
State University, Lyons served<br />
on the Detroit Board of Education<br />
for 27 years.<br />
She taught prim airy, secondary<br />
and adult levels of education. In<br />
memory of her husband, she contributed<br />
to the physics lab of<br />
Madonna University's science<br />
wing and to a departmental<br />
office in the School of Business. •<br />
Stokoe was chair of Gallaudet's<br />
English Department<br />
and was director of its linguistics<br />
research lab. _• ,<br />
He is the editor of Sign Language<br />
Studies, a quarterly journal,<br />
and is known for his books<br />
