More than 800 studejnts, the
largeat class ever, will join the
alumni ranks at Madonna University's
commencement at 10:30
a.m. Saturday in Calihan Hall at
the University of Detroit Mercy
Of the graduates, 87 will
receive a master's degree, 660
will receive a bachelor's degree,
and the remainder either an
associate's degree or certificate.
Madonna University's vice
president for Planning and Mission
Effectiveness, the
Francis S. Tebbe, will preside
over the commencement ceremonies.
Sister Ann Stamm, professor
and chairperson of religious
studies and philosophy, will give
the invocation.
A reception hosted by Madonna
University President Sister
Mary Francilene will be^eld in
the Residence Hall dining room
after Mass.
Three people will receive honorary
degrees, including Leo J.
Brennan Jr., vice president and
executive director of the Ford
Motor Company Fund; Mary A.
Lyons, president of Lyons Tool &
Engineering; and William C.
Stokoe, professor emeritus of
Gallaudet University
Brennan, who received bachelor's
and master's degrees from

Lyons, wife of the late William
A. Lyons, assumed the role of
president of Lyons Tool & Engineering
after her husband died.
A graduate of Alliance College,
Walsh Institute.and Wayne
State University, Lyons served
on the Detroit Board of Education
for 27 years.
She taught prim airy, secondary
and adult levels of education. In
memory of her husband, she contributed
to the physics lab of
Madonna University's science
wing and to a departmental
office in the School of Business. •
Stokoe was chair of Gallaudet's
English Department
and was director of its linguistics
research lab. _• ,
He is the editor of Sign Language
Studies, a quarterly journal,
and is known for his books
