6 BIDDIng PrOPOSAL FOr THE 18 th IFOAM OrgAnIC WOrLD COngrESS 2014 Title and Purpose of the Event Title “Bridging the organic world: from local to global, tradition to knowledge” Slogan: Transform into organic. Purpose of the Congress The 18th IFOAM Organic World Congress aims to build linkages for the benefit of organic farming through traditional knowledge and practices that are mainly organic by nature and will seek how this could enhance or bring an added value to the organic movement while enabling the conservation of traditions which tends to disappear. However, Traditional knowledge and practices might be highly wide ranged in terms of topics to be dealt within one congress. Therefore, the main focus will be on OrganicTraditional Productionthat is increasingly affected by different pieces of legislation in different regions of the world and no longer can meet the market standards. This unfortunately results by an important loss of diversity in terms of culture but also nature friendly practices that developed throughout decennia. Moreover, we believe that the 18th IFOAM Organic World Congress to be held in 2014 will be a crucial congress enabling an environment for the monitoring of the results ofIFOAM good governance strategy (Please bare in mind that this should be adapted according the decision taken in Korea about the good governance Findings and recommendations).This led us to choose it as one of the key themes to be dealt with during the congress. This theme could be supported by discussion on good governance fed by the latest experience worldwide to be able to have a

Within the scope of the topics above, it will important to create a ground to explore the opportunities to enhance regional partnership under the IFOAM umbrella in order to ensure close communication to increase the impact of the advantages to become a stronger worldwide organisation. The IFOAM already underline this need and importance through its diverse activities. By choosing this theme the Bugday Association would like to look at the opportunities to create more synergy and increase participation based on the existing experience and bringing it’s own and worldwide expertise. The IFOAM Organic World Congress to be held in Istanbul will also support the raising of global awareness on Turkey’s organic agriculture potential. Such an event will also bring the representative of different organic sector and support cooperation in order to increase the impact of the organic movement in Turkey. We believe in the importance to develop different strategies in order to strengthen organic agriculture but also increase IFOAM representation in Turkey. The Buğday Association since 1998 strongly aimed to enable the local producers to meet with the consumer and this finally resulted in the opening of our first ecological market in Istanbul in 2006. Buğday is willing to make use of its unifying characteristic towards the further development of organic agriculture in Turkey. Buğday Association is already looking for ways to bring the Turkish organic sector together or contribute to similar initiatives starting up in Turkey. This congress will create an important driving force towards unifying the organic agriculture movement in Turkey. 7
