Meals: B, L Accommodations: Unico Grande AYUTHAYA & Pmnc SmI Yor Check out after breakfast and depart Bangkok at 0800hrs for Ayuthaya. En route we stop at Ban Pa lnn Summer Palace. The palace grounds contain a variety of beautiful buildings in European, Chinese and traditional Thai styles, including some of the best known structures in the Kingdom. For lunch we will cruise on a local riverboat and view the famous riverside attractions of the ancient capital of Siam Ayutthaya - as a mixture of architectural style stupas and chedis blend with an old French Roman Catholic Church; magnificent ruins contrast with the giant golden chedi commemorating Queen Suriothai; sit and relax with a cold drink on board before stepping ashore to explore the temples first-hand! Then continue to Wat Suwan Dhararam, the primary temple of the ancient capital and surrounding ruins and fields. The three surviving chedis are surrounded by the foundations of the sprawling and extensive ancient palace. We will also visit the Historica/ Sfudies Cenferto give us perspective on how the city would have looked in its heyday. Dinner will be served in a local restaurant in Ayuthaya, afterwards transfer to the train station where you will board the night train to Chiang Mai (departure at 2030hrs). NORTH BY NORTH EAST TRAVEL SERVICES Upon your arrival at Chiang Mai rail station (0730hrs), transfer to your hotel for check in and breakfast. After breakfast travel with your guide to the city of Chiang Mai and start to visit the most important sights in the city center: The building which houses the Arfs & Cultural Center is itself signifìcant because it was built in 1924, and has since served as the city's seat of municipal government, recently winning an award from the Royal Society of Siamese Architects. Before walking through the exhibits, watch a short English sub-titled orientation video about the town to understand better the history, arts and culture of the province. INTHAKHIN FERTILITY PILLAR INSIDE CHED! LUANG & 3 KNGs Monume¡¡r Wat Chedi Luang is also home to "The Pillar of the City'' a totem used in ancient Thai fertility rites, because the temple itself marks the exact centre of Chiang Mai. A guardian spirit known as "Prueksa Thevada', an all-knowing sage, inhabits a nearby tree. Today a festival celebrates the Inthakhin Pillar for 7 days, as local legend holds the píllar was planted there by the Hindu God lndra, commanding the birth of Chiang Mai. Have lunch in a Local restaurant DoISUTHEP MoUNTAIN & TEMPLE ln the afternoon, we will go to the summit of Doi Suthep Mountain, a 1600 meter peak. Near the top is the 600 year old temple of Wat Phra Doi Suthep. Your guide will show you how modern Chiang Mai people 'make merit' using incense and flowers. Join in merit making if you like. Climb to the site is via a magnificent Naga (dragon-headed serpent) staircase of 306 steps (a lift is available). On a clear day, the views are great!
