The Akha put a partícularly heavy empåasis on genealogy - they are taught thelr famíly hlstory<br />
at a very early age, and their culture has a strong focus on honoring ancesfors and thelr<br />
parents. Akha relígion ls more accurately descrÍbed as anímism, as they believe ln a world<br />
fìlled with splrlts, both good and bad, that have a definlte physícat ímpact on the world, They<br />
believe ln a natural cycle of balance that, if dísrupted, can result ln illness, hardshlp, or even<br />

After breakfast check out and travel to visit the Population & Communíty Development<br />
Assocìatíon (PDA) is probably the oldest and most famous NGO in Thailand. One of its initial goals<br />
was to demonstrate that it was not difficult to implement a community-based family planning project<br />
even in one of the farthest provinces of the kingdom. Concentrating initially on lowlanders, the project<br />
soon expanded to include hill tribe communities which had high rates of mother and child mortality.<br />
One of the reasons for the high rates of mother and infant mortality was poor health conditions and<br />
access to medical services. These basic services were provided by the Chiang Rai office of PDA.<br />
Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant before continuing to the Chiang Rai airport for the flight to Bangkok.<br />
