Quebec teenagers who finish high
difficulty adjusting.
On January 16, the Eleanor London
Geoffrey Pearce, a teacher from
Dawson College, said CEGEP is a good
time to explore subjects and discover
interests.
“You don’t need to think that you’re
making the final decision on your life
when you enrol,” said Pearce. “You don’t
have to think that, when you’re getting
into a program or when you’re trying a
new course, that you necessarily need to
stick with that or that it’s a race to finish.”
However, social worker Gabrielle
Arthurs said she had a predetermined
path when she enrolled in the program,
knowing where she wanted to go in academia
from the beginning.
The question of vocational schooling
came up when one of the parents talked
of her own experience as a hair dresser.
The panelists agreed that CEGEP also has
three-year, job-focused programs that
help get students into the workforce
faster.
I cannot recall more beautiful weather
than what we enjoyed in the city of Côte
St. Luc during the summer of 2012. If
you had planted flowers or vegetables—or
both—you were well rewarded. I had my
best tomato crop ever and my begonias,
which I store in peat moss and re-grow
each year, were fantastic. District 5 gardens
captured seven awards at the Côte
St. Luc Maison Fleuries garden beautification
contest this fall.
The top elite award for single- and
semi-detached homes went to Mario
Polisena of Rand Ave. Visit
and runners-up.
Tennis also thrived thanks to the fine
weather. The newly renovated courts on
Caldwell Ave. were well used and hosted
a successful tennis camp. The Côte St.
Luc Tennis Club hosted both the Sam
Brumer Tournament and the Steve
Stevens Senior Nationals. Players from all
provinces across Canada competed to represent
our country at the world championships
in Turkey. Tennis Canada praised
our clay courts and staff. It expressed its
desire to return to our club again. The
club is looking for more members, in particular,
a group of young strong players to
shore up our interclub team. Visit
www.CoteSaintLuc.org/TennisClub for
information on how to join.
As the days are now shorter and colder,
we can focus on indoor activities, such as
our beloved public library, our seniors’
clubs, our teen lounge, indoor pools,
