Canada Post has been affected by the odern age, with its letter circulation ropping by 113 million between 2011 and 012, said spokesperson Anick Losier. he said a rise in e-commerce is helping o balance the scales as package circulaion increases, but it’s not enough. Letter irculation, she said, has always been the eart of the operation, but modern techology means Canadians are using other eans to communicate the written word. The fact that the PO boxes are staying is a relief for people like Roger Cloutier, owner of RJL International Courrier on Sherbrooke St., as he said the service is vital to his business. But before shutting down a service desk, Losier said there is a process called the “Service Charter” where officials survey customers for 30 days, asking them what they think about losing the access point to buy stamps and send packages. Customers have until February 15 to share why they think they need the post office to stay open. Losier said if enough people protest, there is a chance Canada Post change its mind. Walking packages down to the post office is affordable, he said, but having to detour further could mean extra costs and a need to restructure that aspect of the business. “I think it’s terrible, said Keira Constable after mailing a letter outside the post office. “Until the day you can email packages to someone, I think you need to have neighbourhood post offices.
