Whether you’re looking to put
your boat in the water or fish from
the shore, opportunities abound in
Grand Forks and East Grand Forks.
Channel catfish are the Red River’s
claim to fishing fame, but the Red
River and the Red Lake River boast
over 70 species of native fish. With
four boat ramps within the two
cities, it’s convenient to get your
boat in the water. There are also
plenty of shore fishing areas for
those who want to keep their feet
on dry ground.

Whether it’s trolling for fish on
the Red River or just enjoying a
day in a canoe or kayak, there are
four boat ramps right along the
Greenway: two in East Grand Forks,
and two in Grand Forks.
Camping
How many urban areas have a
campground? As part of the Red
River State Recreation Area in East
Grand Forks, a new campground
offers 72 campsites, including 48
electric sites with full-hook-ups.
Campers have plenty of access to
multi-purpose trails for walking
and biking, picnic areas, and two
rivers for fishing and boating.

Catfish days
Each year, people from all over
the country come the beginning of
August to “Cats Incredible” Catfish
Days, a nationally known fishing
tournament on the Red River.
reCreation and festivals
During the event, 300 anglers in 150 teams compete to earn
cash prizes. Approximately 10,000 people attend this event,
which provides two day festival with activities for the whole
family along the banks of the river in East Grand Forks.
Grand forks County fair
Each July, the Grand Forks County Fair and Exhibition
is held at the fairgrounds in Grand Forks. The Grand
Forks County Fair features 4-H exhibits, a livestock show,
commercial exhibits, home arts exhibits and a carnival with
concessions.

Whether it’s summer or winter activities that have you
excited about enjoying the outdoors in the area, there are a
number of local businesses that provide rental equipment,
from skates and skis for the winter to bikes and canoes for
the summer.
organized recreational programming
In addition to all the opportunities for recreation on your
own, Grand Forks and East Grand Forks both offer numerous
year-round youth and adult organized sports opportunities for
all ages.
