Whether you’re looking to put<br />

your boat in the water or fish from<br />

the shore, opportunities abound in<br />

Grand Forks and East Grand Forks.<br />

Channel catfish are the Red River’s<br />

claim to fishing fame, but the Red<br />

River and the Red Lake River boast<br />

over 70 species of native fish. With<br />

four boat ramps within the two<br />

cities, it’s convenient to get your<br />

boat in the water. There are also<br />

plenty of shore fishing areas for<br />

those who want to keep their feet<br />

on dry ground.<br />

the Red River or just enjoying a<br />

day in a canoe or kayak, there are<br />

four boat ramps right along the<br />

Greenway: two in East Grand Forks,<br />

How many urban areas have a<br />

campground? As part of the Red<br />

River State Recreation Area in East<br />

Grand Forks, a new campground<br />

offers 72 campsites, including 48<br />

electric sites with full-hook-ups.<br />

Campers have plenty of access to<br />

multi-purpose trails for walking<br />

and biking, picnic areas, and two<br />

rivers for fishing and boating.<br />

Catfish days<br />

Each year, people from all over<br />

the country come the beginning of<br />

August to “Cats Incredible” Catfish<br />

Days, a nationally known fishing<br />

tournament on the Red River.<br />

reCreation and festivals<br />

During the event, 300 anglers in 150 teams compete to earn<br />

cash prizes. Approximately 10,000 people attend this event,<br />

which provides two day festival with activities for the whole<br />

family along the banks of the river in East Grand Forks.<br />

Grand forks County fair<br />

Each July, the Grand Forks County Fair and Exhibition<br />

is held at the fairgrounds in Grand Forks. The Grand<br />

Forks County Fair features 4-H exhibits, a livestock show,<br />

commercial exhibits, home arts exhibits and a carnival with<br />

concessions.<br />

Whether it’s summer or winter activities that have you<br />

excited about enjoying the outdoors in the area, there are a<br />

number of local businesses that provide rental equipment,<br />

from skates and skis for the winter to bikes and canoes for<br />

the summer.<br />
