At over 400,000 square feet,<br />

Ralph Engelstad Arena features<br />

a suite level with 48 luxury suites<br />

and 2 mini suites. The ice level has<br />

state-of-the-art locker and training<br />

rooms for the Fighting Sioux, with a<br />

huge weight-training area, players’<br />

lounge and classroom/study area.<br />

The main concourse level has a<br />

lobby for ticket sales, administrative<br />

offices, the Sioux Shop and a<br />

spacious ‘traditions area’ featuring<br />

trophies, photos, and All-Americans.<br />

The arena seats just under 12,000<br />

and is typically at capacity for<br />

Fighting Sioux men’s hockey games.<br />

Wide, spacious concourses serve a<br />

variety of stadium food and treats<br />

and are complete with television<br />

monitors. Thanks to the private<br />

donation of Ralph Engelstad, the<br />

University of North Dakota has a<br />

facility that is truly the envy of all<br />

the NCAA and the world!<br />

Besides Fighting Sioux hockey,<br />

Ralph Engelstad Arena was<br />

instrumental in bringing the 2005<br />

World Junior Hockey Championship<br />

to Grand Forks and has also<br />

played host to a number of events<br />

including the 2008 Men’s World<br />

Curling Championship and concerts<br />

such as Brad Paisley, Carrie<br />

Underwood and more!<br />

Court sports<br />

Opened in August 2004, the<br />

Betty Engelstad Sioux Center is the<br />

home to UND men’s and women’s<br />

basketball and volleyball. “The<br />

Betty” seats 4,000 and has some<br />

of the same amenities as “the<br />

Ralph.” There are four regulationsize<br />

basketball courts and four<br />

regulation-size volleyball courts.<br />

Behind the scenes, there are three<br />

team locker rooms, a players lounge,<br />

a study area and classroom space.<br />

spectator sport. Grand Forks’ premier events center/<br />

convention facility, the Alerus Center, is home to UND<br />

Fighting Sioux football. In addition, the Alerus Center has<br />

the largest exhibit hall between Seattle and the Twin Cities.<br />

With seating of over 13,000 for football or soccer and up<br />

to 22,000 for entertainment events, it offers space for a<br />

variety of events. Besides the main arena, the Alerus Center<br />

also offers convention facilities for meetings of various<br />

sizes.<br />

varsity and <strong>Community</strong> sports<br />

The University of North Dakota features women’s and<br />

men’s hockey, basketball, world-class swimming and<br />

diving, and other varsity sports. With its beautiful facilities,<br />

UND is the place to root for the home team. UND also<br />

sponsors the Sioux Kids Club, an opportunity for grade<br />

school students to meet their favorite players and attend<br />

occasional games for free.<br />

Each year, various sports camps for area youth take<br />

place on the campus of UND. These include basketball,<br />

hockey, swimming, volleyball and football camps. UND<br />

staff provide instruction and position sessions, with<br />

an emphasis on small-group instruction and good<br />

sportsmanship.<br />

hiGh sChool sports<br />

Grand Forks and East Grand Forks public and private<br />

schools offer varsity sports, including football, hockey,
