If history is what you’re looking
for, you can visit the Grand Forks
County Historical Society’s Myra
Museum. It’s home to displays
about the history of the region and
features a number of historical
buildings right on the property. In
East Grand Forks, you’ll want to take
in Heritage Village. This historic
village works to preserve the history
of the Northern Red River Valley.
During Heritage Days, held the third
week of every August, steam engine
threshing machines, museum
displays, demonstrations and much
more await your visit. Weekend
tours are available. Facilities are
available for class and family
reunions.

The literary scene in our region
is expansive. For over 35 years,
the UND Writer’s Conference has
drawn over 300 famous writers.
This annual event is one of the
only writer’s conferences in the
nation that is free and open to
the public. During the five-day
event there are readings, panel
discussions, lectures, films and a
community writer’s workshop. The
North Dakota Quarterly is a literary
journal whose roots extend back to
the early days of the University of
North Dakota. One of the famous
“little magazines” that have been
the traditional seed beds of talented
writers, it puts UND on the map
while contributing to the nation’s
cultural and artistic life.
Readings of fiction, nonfiction
and poetry can be found
in bookstores, the North Dakota
Museum of Art and at local coffee
shops. Children can also get in
the act with story time at libraries
in Grand Forks and East Grand
Forks. Our public libraries strive to
connect the community, enrich the
mind, and inspire the imagination.

fun activities for the kids, and the evening closes with a

loCal and international Culture
The possibilities to learn about local and international
cultures abound in the area. At the UND International
Center, you can choose a night to learn about a different
country and feast on that culture’s delicacies. Each
year, the International Center also hosts a Feast of
Nations Celebration that offers international food and
entertainment. Native American culture is a strong part
of the community, with an annual Wacipi (pow-wow) and
educational forums on Native culture during Time-Out
Week.
