participati<strong>on</strong> <strong>in</strong> “Adivasi Mahotsava” at Ukai, <strong>Gujarat</strong><br />

<strong>Gujarat</strong> Rajya 20 th Adijati Mahotsava was held <strong>in</strong> Ukai Town of <strong>Gujarat</strong><br />

from 18 th Feb, 2012 to 20 th Feb, 2012 as part of <strong>Gujarat</strong> Government <strong>in</strong>itiative to<br />

promote Adivasi culture and traditi<strong>on</strong>s and br<strong>in</strong>g adivasi’s <strong>in</strong>to ma<strong>in</strong>stream of<br />

development. Adivasi’s from different parts of India, namely, <strong>Gujarat</strong>, Maharastra,<br />

Rajasthan and Goa attended the Mahotsava. Collector, Tapi District Proposed that<br />

KAPS should support this Mahotsav by giv<strong>in</strong>g Momento to the participants(about 1000<br />

no.). It was decided to support the mahotsav and <strong>in</strong>stall an exhibiti<strong>on</strong> of KAPS <strong>in</strong> the<br />

Mahotsav, Collector c<strong>on</strong>sented for the same. Ukai is a town <strong>in</strong> Surat district at a<br />

distance of about 30 KMs from KAPS. Industries like Thermal & Hydel power plants<br />

and a paper mill are located at Ukai.<br />

<strong>NPCIL</strong>, <strong>Kakrapar</strong> <strong>Gujarat</strong> Site has utilized this opportunity to <strong>in</strong>crease<br />

the awareness and clear the misc<strong>on</strong>cepti<strong>on</strong>s <strong>on</strong> nuclear power am<strong>on</strong>g the public by<br />

address<strong>in</strong>g a wide array of people <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g residents of Ukai. An Exhibiti<strong>on</strong> stall with<br />

the display items viz. Reactor Build<strong>in</strong>g model, Animated Flow diagram of the standard<br />

PHWR, a dummy fuel bundle, banners c<strong>on</strong>vey<strong>in</strong>g the message that “Nuclear Power is<br />

a clean & green power” & “Nuclear Power fuell<strong>in</strong>g the future” was put up at the<br />

Mahotsava venue. A TV M<strong>on</strong>itor (46” size) and LAPTOP were used for runn<strong>in</strong>g the<br />

carto<strong>on</strong> film. Work<strong>in</strong>g of the nuclear power plant, its envir<strong>on</strong>mentally benign nature,<br />

the safety features, operat<strong>in</strong>g safety record and the need for nuclear power for the<br />

growth of the country were expla<strong>in</strong>ed to the public who visited the stall.<br />

The Adivasi Mahotsava was <strong>in</strong>augurated by H<strong>on</strong>ourable M<strong>in</strong>ister of<br />

State for Panchayat, Gram Gruha Nirman and Nagarik Apoort, Government of <strong>Gujarat</strong>,<br />

Shri Narottam Patel. Other dignitaries present <strong>in</strong> the functi<strong>on</strong> were H<strong>on</strong>ourable<br />

M<strong>in</strong>ister of State for Co-operative, sports, youth and cultural affairs, Government of<br />

<strong>Gujarat</strong>, Shri Ishwar Bhai Patel, Chairman, ST Nigam, <strong>Gujarat</strong>, Shri Kanti Bhai Gamit,<br />

Parliamentary Secretary, Adijati Vikas, Government of <strong>Gujarat</strong>, Sh Harsad bhai<br />

Basava. Site Director, <strong>Kakrapar</strong> <strong>Gujarat</strong> Site, Shri L K Ja<strong>in</strong> was <strong>on</strong>e of the<br />

dist<strong>in</strong>guished guests who participated <strong>in</strong> the <strong>in</strong>augural functi<strong>on</strong>.<br />

The H<strong>on</strong>ourable m<strong>in</strong>ister Shri Narottam Patel, al<strong>on</strong>g with state officials<br />

<strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g the Tapi district collector Shri. R.J. Patel and DDO, Ms. Shal<strong>in</strong>i Agrawal<br />

visited <strong>NPCIL</strong> exhibiti<strong>on</strong>. They were received by Site Director, <strong>Kakrapar</strong> Site, Shri L K<br />

Ja<strong>in</strong>. Chief Super<strong>in</strong>tendent, KAPS, Sh P R Bansal, Ma<strong>in</strong>tenance Super<strong>in</strong>tendent, Sh<br />

M P Hansora, Tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g Super<strong>in</strong>tendent, Sh D Rajendran, AGM (HR), Smt. Sujaya<br />

Kujur, Senior Tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g Officer, Sh C Rajani Kumar were also present <strong>on</strong> the occasi<strong>on</strong>.<br />

Shri Narottam Patel was keen to know about operati<strong>on</strong>al aspects of Nuclear power<br />

plant <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g future <strong>NPCIL</strong> plans, especially <strong>in</strong> the state of <strong>Gujarat</strong>.<br />

The exhibiti<strong>on</strong> was visited by people from all walks of life <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g<br />

school children, villagers, state officials, public sector (Ukai Thermal and Ukai Hydel)<br />

and Private sector (J K Paper Mills) employees. Carto<strong>on</strong> film - Mansukh, allay<strong>in</strong>g the<br />

fears about nuclear energy was a big draw am<strong>on</strong>gst the students and the youngsters.<br />

More than 2000 pers<strong>on</strong>s visited <strong>NPCIL</strong> display stall. Booklets <strong>in</strong> <strong>Gujarat</strong>i language<br />

named “Ek Hato Mansukh” Part-I & “<strong>Kakrapar</strong> Atomic Power Stati<strong>on</strong>” (brief about<br />

nuclear energy & plant operati<strong>on</strong>) were distributed to the public who visited the<br />

exhibiti<strong>on</strong> stall. People were show<strong>in</strong>g keen <strong>in</strong>terest to learn about nuclear power<br />

operati<strong>on</strong> and appreciative of the message that nuclear power is a clean & green<br />

power and the <strong>in</strong>creas<strong>in</strong>g nuclear power generati<strong>on</strong> is vital for India’s growth.<br />

The whole public awareness programme was co-ord<strong>in</strong>ated by Shri D<br />

Rajendran, Tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g Super<strong>in</strong>tendent, KAPS. S/Shri C Rajani Kumar, R K Dubey, J B<br />

S<strong>on</strong>i, Y J Prajapati, J S Wanker, Shailesh Nikam and Naveen participated as<br />

volunteers <strong>in</strong> public awareness programme. S/Shri Itesh Nathubhai Gamit, H D Rana<br />

from HR group have coord<strong>in</strong>ated with the state authorities for c<strong>on</strong>duct<strong>in</strong>g the<br />

programme.<br />

M<strong>in</strong>ister of State for Tribal development, forest and envir<strong>on</strong>ment, Government of<br />

<strong>Gujarat</strong>, Shri Mangu Bhai Patel. H<strong>on</strong>ourable M<strong>in</strong>ister of State for Road transport,<br />
