• Pre-exercise — Low-fibre, convenient form of fuel for athletes who are unable to<br />
tolerate normal foods and fluids.<br />
• Dur<strong>in</strong>g exercise — Convenient form of carbohydrate to provide fuel dur<strong>in</strong>g<br />
endurance exercise last<strong>in</strong>g longer than 60 m<strong>in</strong>utes, or dur<strong>in</strong>g breaks <strong>in</strong> extended<br />
tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g or competition sessions for team sports.<br />
• Post-exercise — Provides an easily consumed form of carbohydrate when regular<br />
foods cannot be tolerated by the athlete.<br />
Considerations<br />
PowerBar PowerGel should always be consumed with adequate fluid to assist<br />
digestion/absorption and to help meet hydration needs. If the athlete <strong>in</strong>tends to<br />
consume PowerBar PowerGel dur<strong>in</strong>g a competitive event, this strategy should be<br />
practised and assessed dur<strong>in</strong>g tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g sessions. Dur<strong>in</strong>g prolonged exercise (>2–3<br />
hours) additional sodium from sources such as sports dr<strong>in</strong>ks or food may be required.<br />
