Associate of Science degrees and certificates are
designed to provide students with specific careerrelated
knowledge and skills. Completing the
Associate of Science degrees requires completing
the General Education requirements, the courses
required for the major and elective courses to
total 60 units. The Del Norte campus offers
several Associate of Science degree and certificate
programs.
Addiction Studies (ADCT)
This is a certificate program certified by the California
Association for Alcohol/Drug Educators and can lead
to employment opportunities in this field.
Required courses for the certificate are:
•Addiction Studies (ADCT) 10, 11, 12, 13, 15,
16, 17, 38, 42
•Sociology (SOC) 34, 42 and two additional
approved Psychology or Sociology courses
Administration of Justice, Corrections (AJ, CORR)
This is both a degree and certificate program.
Required courses for this certificate are:
•Administration of Justice (AJ) 1, 3, 5, 6, 7, 50,
51, 52, 53
Required courses for this degree are:
•Administration of Justice (AJ) 1, 3, 5, 6, 7, 50,
51, 52, 53
•15 units of approved electives
Certified Nurses Assistant (CNA)
Successful completion of the course Health
Occupations (HO) 110 qualifies students to take the
California state test for certification as a Certified
Nurse Assistant.
Early Childhood Education (ECE)
This is both a degree and certificate program.
Required courses for this certificate are:
•Early Childhood Education (ECE) 1, 2, 5, 7
Required courses for this degree are:
•Early Childhood Education (ECE) 1, 2, 5, 6, 7,
9, 10, 12 or 13, 18
General Welding (WT))
This is a certificate program.
Required courses for this certificate are:
•Welding Technology (WT) 54, 56, 60, 61,
67 and 80
acaDeMic prograMs
Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN)
This is both a degree and certificate program. Prepare
now for the next LVN program which will begin
fall semester 2013. Application to the program is
required; qualified students are admitted through a
lottery drawing.
Applicants to the LVN program must have met the
following requirements:
•A high school diploma or GED
•Completion of Health Occupations (HO) 110
with a grade of ‘C’ or better or possession of
Certified Nurses Assistant (CNA) certification
in California
•Required English and math skills met
by assessment test scores or appropriate
classes
•Biology (BIOL) 1, English (ENGL) 150 and
Math 380 are strongly recommended
Medical Assisting (MA)
This is both a degree and certificate program.
Prerequisites to enroll in the courses Medical
Assisting (MA) 155, Medical Assisting I and
Medical Assisting (MA) 165, Medical Assisting II,
are eligibility for English 150 and Math 380.
Required courses for the certificate are:
•English (ENGL) 150
•Computer Information Systems (CIS) 1
•Medical Assisting (MA) 152
•Medical Assisting (MA) 155 (Fall 2012)
•Medical Assisting (MA) 165 (Spring 2013)
