1850.] Grand Lodge of Illinois. 633
On the 6th of June, the leading rioters were expelled from all the rights
and privileges of Masonry. The facts in relation to these tumultuous and
disgraceful scenes are now before us, and it becomes necessary for the Ma
sonic family of Illinois to make up their verdict. It becomes us, who have
an equal right with other Grand Lodges, to place the seal of condemnation
on the wrongdoer, and support with dignity the character we now, as Ma
sons, sustain. We wish no evasions or equivocations, but desire that the
position of the Grand Lodge of the Prairie State shall be fully defined—that
he that runs may read.
We therefore offer for adoption the following resolution:
ist. " That there ought to be but one Grand Lodge in the State of New
York, and that it ought to be held in the city of New York, and be consid
ered as the continuation of the old Grand Lodge; that all allusions to former
difficulties be avoided as far as possible."
2d. Resolved, That the Grand Lodge of Illinois recognizes the Lodge
over which M. W. John U. Willard presides as the only regularly constituted
Grand Lodge in the State of New York.
3d. Resolved, That M. W. John D. Willard deserves the thanks of this
Lodge for his firm, dignified and courteous conduct during the disgraceful
and lawless scenes that were enacted in the Grand Lodge of New York on
the 5th of June last.
On motion,
It was resolved that the Grand Lodge now appropriate 75 dollars for a
Grand Lecturer, to lecture the lodges in this State south of Hillsborough.
Bro. English offered the following resolution, which under the by-laws
lays over until the next annual communication:
Resolved, That the by-laws be so amended as to read: That this Grand
Lodge shall be permanently located in State of Illinois.
On motion,
Resolved, That the Grand Secretary of this Grand Lodge, be instructed
to correspond with M. W. G. Master Willard, of the Grand Ixxlge of the
State of New York, and obtain from him a list of the names and members of
all lodges adhering to and working under his jurisdiction, and that he furnish
each subordinate lodge in this State with a copy thereof as soon as practic
able.
A memorial was received from Macomb Lodge, No. 17, as follows, which
on motion was referred to the Committee on Education:
At a called communication of Macomb Lodge, No. 17, on the 24th day
of September, 1849,
t n e
following resolution was adopted by said lodge:
