A quarter of a century l<strong>at</strong>er, the<br />
<strong>Redlands</strong> Bicycle Classic is the oldest<br />
continuous stage race in the United St<strong>at</strong>es.<br />
“I don’t think anybody involved in the<br />
beginning had thoughts th<strong>at</strong> it would<br />
become wh<strong>at</strong> it is,” said Craig Kundig,<br />
who served as the public race director the<br />
first year. “I know after the first year we<br />
were all very excited with how successful<br />
it was and we wanted to do a second one,<br />
but I don’t think anybody thought it’d<br />
last this long.”<br />
For Brandt, the legacy of wh<strong>at</strong> he helped<br />
cre<strong>at</strong>e is evident in a memento he has from
