Sanctuary Gorilla Forest Camp
GoRILLA SAFARIS “A once in a lifetime, unforgettable experience”
Bwindi Impenetrable National Park,
a UNESCO World Heritage site, is
home to six habituated mountain
gorilla troops, four of which are
generally accessible on gorilla
treks. These four troops total +/-60
gorillas, and are made up of one
or more silverbacks, black backs,
females, juveniles and infants.
Each trek last between 3 and 8 hours,
depending on how long it takes to find the
gorillas, and once found, you will have a
maximum of an hour of interaction with
them. Your experienced guides will often
contain members of the teams initially
involved in the delicate process of getting
the gorillas used to humans. It is a once in
a lifetime, unforgettable experience to be so
close to these gentle giants, experiencing an
hour of their community lifestyle.
Bwindi is also home to 120 varieties of
mammal, 10 primates including the rare
L’Hoest’ and blue monkey, black and white
colobus monkeys, chimpanzee and baboon.
In addition there are over 300 bird species,
many of which are both rare and amazingly
coloured. Apart from the gorilla trek, there
are other forest walks that can be taken to
discover some of these amazing creatures.
As the gorilla trek involves mountain walking
a reasonable standard of fitness is required.
Treks are limited in numbers of participants,
all of whom must be 15 years or over.

Arrive Entebbe airport, Uganda, then take
a scheduled flight to Kihihi-Bwindi. A
Sanctuary Gorilla Forest Camp guide will
then transfer you to the amazing Sanctuary
Gorilla Forest Camp. Relax and unwind at
this luxury tented camp nestled in the heart
of the forest. At night, the gorilla briefings are
undertaken as guests sit by the campfire.

and trek to view the Gorillas
Once you have your permit you are led
across the rugged terrain and though the awe
inspiring jungle of the Bwindi Impenetrable
Forest where you have the best chance of
spotting a mountain gorilla family. Tracking
begins early each morning to find the gorillas
which belong to one of the ‘habituated’ family
groups in Northern Bwindi. Experienced
guides will accompany you and once the
gorillas are located, the group will be allowed
a maximum of one hour with them.

day 3 Sanctuary Gorilla Forest camp
Today you can relax at the camp or visit a
local village and meet the villagers to learn
about their day to day lives. On this walk
you can visit a honey production site, a
traditional medicine man, blacksmith or
local school when in term.

Sanctuary Gorilla Forest camp
This luxury tented camp is nestled in the mist-swathed
forests of a mountainside in the heart of Bwindi
Impenetrable National Park. The exclusive location - the
sole property within the park’s boundaries - affords
Gorilla Forest Camp the status of being the ideal base for
gorilla tracking, primate viewing and birding excursions
in the park.
Accommodation is in 8 double tents raised on wooden
platforms, each with en suite facilities and hot and cold
running water. A feature is the bath tub which boasts
views of the forest. A dining cottage, bar and raised
outdoor dining area overlook the forest. All meals and
local drinks are included.
getting there: International flights arrive at Entebbe
Airport, some 35kms southwest of Kampala. Scheduled
connecting flights take just over an hour to get to Kihihi,
and from here it is approximately 50km by road to
Sanctuary Gorilla Forest Camp located within Bwindi
Impenetrable National Park

August 2012) allows one (1) trek and interaction with the
gorillas. Strict cancellation and refund policies apply.

Gorillas in Rwanda
