SAFETY
Safety in Woodworking
With Safety Integrated, Siemens
has gone ahead and already integrated
the safety into the automation.
Safety Integrated offers maximum
malfunction protection for everything
from sensor technology to evaluation
units and safe machine operation. Thanks
to the safety-oriented communication via
Profibus and Profinet, as well as over the
actuator-sensor interface ASIsafe, all of the
components can be combined in the system.
Profitability combined with safety
In woodworking, machining centers equipped
with the Sinumerik 840D CNC controller
and Safety Integrated functions have proven
Safety Matters
Applications in the area of machine safety and process
technology, as well as modern automation process
technologies demand a high degree of safety for
operators, machines and the environment. A
sophisticated safety concept plays an important role
particularly for the high feed speeds typical of today’s
woodworking industry. Users can therefore choose from
numerous Safety Integrated functions.
particularly effective. They feature extremely
short response times, which is particularly
important for the high woodworking
feed speeds of more than 120 meters per
minute.
Sinumerik Safety Integrated also improves
machine productivity, given the fact
that operators can make tool magazine,
machine table or working area adjustments
on the machine while production is up and
running. The Safety Integrated functions
of “Safe Operating Stop” and “Safely Limited
Speed” also protect the operator when
the machine is in operation. To increase the
machine availability, wear-prone hardware
and electromechanical solutions can be replaced
by software and electronics. There is
no need for expensive parallel wiring, because
the Profisafe protocol enables the
transfer of safety-oriented signals to the
Profibus standard.
Drive-independent safety functions
Appropriate converters are also available
for the Sinumerik control. Siemens offers
drive-independent safety solutions both for
low-cost starter machines with standard
asynchronous motors, as well as for panel
dividing saws with servo technology. In accordance
with the latest DIN standard 1870-
2 for horizontal circular beam panel saws
and vertical circular beam panel saws, “…
