Kawau Island<br />
Best known for Mansion House, home of<br />
Sir George Grey (Governor of New Zealand<br />
1845-1853 and 1861-1868) who imported<br />
a wide variety of animal species including<br />
the existing wildlife (wallabies, kookaburras,<br />
peacocks) as well as several species of<br />
plants and trees. Walking tracks, historic<br />
house, old copper mine site.<br />
Little Barrier Island (Hauturu)<br />
This island, access to which is restricted to permit holders only, contains the<br />
largest remaining area of relatively unmodified northern New Zealand forest &<br />
since 1885 has been a wildlife sanctuary for critically endangered species such<br />
as Kakapo.<br />
Motuihe Island<br />
Rich in history. Safe swimming. Fishing. Coastal walks. Barbecue area. Camping<br />
and basic cottage accommodation.<br />
Motutapu Island<br />
Connected to Rangitoto Island by a causeway built during WWII. Over 400<br />
archaeological sites. Toilets, water, camping, fishing and swimming. You can<br />

rakino Island<br />
Sheltered bays framed by beautiful Pohutukawa trees. Excellent walks and<br />
picnic spots. Toilets, fishing, swimming.
