A CLASSIC TREK – AND RIGHTLY SO.
SAREK NATIONAL PARK, SWEDISH LAPLAND
It’s mid-August, time for Michi, Martina, Andi and Gaudenz the photographer to pack their
rucksacks. The plan is to do a few days trekking in the Far North (near the Arctic Circle). Sarek
National Park is many people’s idea of a dream wilderness trekking area.
The starting point for the trek, Kvikkjokk, is also a classic destination. And the perfect location for
trips into the Sarek. The first stage of the trek is all about limbering up. The trail leads through
ancient coniferous forests and over gentle hills to Prinskullen, lit by an almost autumnal sun. The
five members of the team (Matti, the guide, has also joined them) pitch their tents between two
small mountain lakes. A meal of reindeer goulash and mashed potato is more than welcome. The
big rucksacks always take a bit of getting used to at first.
