and the gover nor s are delighted to hear that building appr oval has
been secured. Work on the technology block has now star ted in
earnest and is ongoing in readiness for the next academic year .

Communication with parents and the local community has been
further improved as a r es ult of the r egular publication of the s chool
H2U newsletter led by Mr. P. Coughlan and his team of students.
T he news letter appear s regularly and is circulated to par ents and
local residents. It aims to pr ovide infor mation about activities at
school and to celebr ate the many successes achieved by the
students in both their academic and ex tr a curricular activities.
I CT
We have now provided the oppor tunity to involve the gover ning
body of I CT developments such as the ‘Highcliffe Challenge’ which
presents students with the oppor tunity to wor k in close cons ultation
with staff in order to gain accr editation for achieving challenges
which complement their studies. Both the ‘Highcliffe Challenge’ and
‘MyHighcliffe’ ar e now available to s taff and s tudents via the
internet. This is a maj or and unique development to Highcliffe that
provides the oppor tunity for students to take on more owner s hip of
their progress and to pr ovide r egular updates of their achievements.

A new system of recording achievement has been introduced which
involves the us e of the intranet to awar d mer its and r ecognise
achievement. This has further enhanced the cultur e of achievement
and r ewar d that has been instilled in the s tudents and pr ovides
them with the oppor tunity to collect merits in order to develop their
web-based por tfolios. This initiative has been significant in ensuring
that students are r ewar ded for their achievements and for ms an
intrinsic par t of their learning pr ocess.
I nt er nat ional School Award
Highcliffe S chool and Language College has now been granted
I nternational School status by the B r itis h Council as a r es ult of our
bid and s tr ong links have been established with our partner school
in S Africa – Joubert Ludidi. In addition, staff and s tudents have
participated in the Chr is tchur ch Pyramid ‘One Wor ld’ pr oj ect
through performing and Expr essive Ar ts .
