September 27 The Gift of Healing
God’s Saving Health to All Nations
“God be merciful unto us, and bless us; and cause his face to shine
upon us; Selah. That thy way may be known upon earth, thy saving
health among all nations” (Psalm 67:1, 2).
The efficiency of the medical missionary work is in pointing sinsick
men and women to the Man of Calvary, who taketh away the sin
of the world. 57
When the light came that we should have a sanitarium, the reason
was plainly given. There were many who needed to be educated in
regard to healthful living. A place must be provided to which the sick
could be taken, where they could be taught how to live so as to preserve
health. At the same time light was given that the sick could be
successfully treated without drugs. 58
Christ has empowered His church to do the same work that He
did during His ministry. Today He is the same compassionate physician
that He was while on this earth. We should let the afflicted
understand that in Him there is healing balm for every disease, restoring
power for every infirmity. 59
When the sick are restored to health, the glory is often given to the
physician, when it was the divine touch, and healing balm of the
Saviour that gave relief and prolonged life. If the one who has been
restored gives praise to the physician, it is the physician’s duty and
privilege to hide self in Christ, pointing to the compassionate Saviour
as the One who has spoken the word of life. It is his opportunity to
acknowledge the Lord as the Worker and the physician as only the
instrument, and to impress upon the minds of those to whom the
Saviour has thus given a renewal of life and health, that their lives
have been prolonged for a high and holy purpose. 60
We have come to a time when every member of the church should
take hold of medical missionary work. The world is a lazar house
filled with victims of both physical and spiritual disease. Everywhere
people are perishing for lack of a knowledge of the truths that have
been committed to us. The members of the church are in need of an
awakening, that they may realize their responsibility to impart these
truths. 61
