Parque Natural del marjal de Pego-Oliva
El Gobierno de España incluyó en 1994 el marjal de Pego-Oliva en el catálogo
de las principales zonas húmedas del mundo. El marjal, los ríos y
las montañas que los rodean fueron declarados Parque Natural en enero
de 1995. Abarca una superficie de 1.248 hectáreas y tiene un sistema
dunar que se extiende al sur del río Serpis. La formación del marjal se
debe a la colmatación de una antigua bahía que lo convirtió en albufera
y que posteriormente lo transformó en marjal. Debido a ello constituye
