ALIMENTACIÓN SANA / HEALTHY FEEDING / DIE GESUNDE FÜTTERUNG
Get ready for the arrival of autumn with good
eating habits
Although some fruits and vegetables can be found
FMHOY - Fuerteventura
Including in our diet seasonal food is fundamental
in order to take advantage of their nutrients and get
the energy necessary to face the routine and the
arrival of the cold weather.
Summer holidays are now a memory and we are
back to the routine, the arrival of autumn means that
we are to take special care of our diet. It is time to
detox and prepare the organism for a season where
we have less sunshine hours, lower temperatures
and more rain. Those factors, joined with the fact that
the human body feels physically and emotionally the
season changes are the reason why we must choose
a diet that brings energy, boost our immune system
and gets us ready to face the autumn blues.
After the first few weeks of routine, when families
go back to work and to school, many people start
feeling tired, stressed and unmotivated. When faced
with those symptoms, it is important to include in the
daily diet the correct combination of carbohydrates,
proteins, fat, vitamins and minerals. Foods such as
pasta, rice, vegetables or potatoes are very useful
and also bring very little fat.
SEASONAL FOOD
In Autumn, as during the rest of the year, it is
recommended to include seasonal food in our diet,
because in addition to having more intense flavour,
being more fresh and cheaper, they bring what the
organism needs at all times. For example, citrus fruits
bring in large quantities of vitamin C to help us prevent
the typical colds of the first cold weather.
all year round, some are more typical for this season;
do you know which ones they are?
Fruits
Oranges, tangerines, lemons, grapes, pomegranate or
pears are some of the fruits that are now coming into their
season, which is when they are at their best flavour, freshness
and price. Not forgetting dried fruits such as nuts.
Vegetables
The protagonists for autumn are vegetables such
as aubergines, artichokes, Brussels sprouts, cauliflowers,
courgettes, pumpkins, red cabbages and
cabbages.
DEPRESSION AND LOSS OF ENERGY
But going from summer to autumn does not only
mean to adapt our diet. In the same manner that we
talk of seasonal asthenia, there is also autumnal
depression that affect the organism directly and the
state of motivation. According to studies, this affect
30% of the population, especially women aged between
25 and 45.
Symptoms such as apathy, sadness or loss of
energy are due to a change of the life rhythm. Slowly,
days get shorter and the routine gets more intense,
but the human body is reluctant to adapt to those
new circumstances. Normally it gets better with time.
One must have patience and wait for the organism to
adapt to this new season, new temperature and new
requirements, both physical and mental.
If other symptoms appear such as sleep loss, eating
disorders or irritability and if the situation does not
improve with time or with a change of diet, it is then
recommended to see a specialist.
