Message
President National Beekeeping Network Federation
Desde la Federación
Red Apícola Nacional
F.G. queremos brindarle
un fraternal saludo e
invitarlos a conocer a nuestra
organización, la cadena apícola
y el Chile Apícola.
En Chile, como en el resto
de América y el Caribe, la
apicultura es una actividad
introducida desde Europa. Al
comienzo fue vista como una
actividad complementaria
e incluso un hobby. Sin
embargo, con el correr
del tiempo y el desarrollo
productivo agropecuario
del país, la apicultura
comienza a tomar un rol más
preponderante.
Las características geográficas
y climáticas de nuestro país
propician las condiciones
de atomización de los
productores, por lo que cerca
del 70% de la apicultura
nacional es desarrollada por
productores de la Agricultura
Familiar Campesina e
Indígena. Estos se encuentran
distribuidos a lo largo y
ancho del territorio, siendo
el 30% restante cubierto
por productores medianos
y grandes empresarios
apícolas, por lo que
predominan las relaciones de
trabajo de tipo familiar.
Nuestra Federación surge
en 1999 de la necesidad de
representar a los apicultores
de distintos puntos del país
y mayoritariamente a los
productores de la Agricultura
Familiar Campesina e
Indígena. Desde nuestro
origen, hemos puesto énfasis
en desarrollar una apicultura
profesional y sustentable,
definiendo entre sus roles
la representación, defensa,
propuesta y negociación.
Ellos sustentan nuestra
interacción con los otros
actores de la cadena apícola
nacional, manteniendo
diálogos permanentes con
la institucionalidad y el
mundo privado tanto del
mundo apícola como de la
actividad silvoagropecuaria,
donde se ha trabajado junto
a otros integrantes de la
cadena para posicionar a la
apicultura como un factor
estratégico en la producción
silvoagropecuaria del país.
Nuestro trabajo dirigido a la
constante profesionalización
del rubro nos ha llevado
a desarrollar acciones
conjuntas con la cadena
apícola nacional e
internacional, así como
instituciones del Estado,
universidades, empresa y
exportadores. Este trabajo
apunta tanto a fortalecer el
manejo sanitario y nutricional
como el cumplimiento de altos
estándares de calidad de los
productos de la colmena, lo
que ha permitido diversificar
la producción apícola
con mieles diferenciadas,
propóleos, polen, toxinas,
material genético como
O
ur Federation, the
National Beekeeping
Network, extends to all of
you our warm greetings,
and invites you to learn
about our organization, the
beekeeping chain and the
Apiculture of Chile.
In Chile, as in the rest
of the Americas and the
Caribbean, apiculture is
an activity introduced from
Europe. In the beginning,
it was considered a
complementary activity,
and even a hobby. However,
with the passing of time,
and the development of
agriculture and livestock
production in the country,
beekeeping began to play a
more important role. At the
start, beekeepers worked
with rustic hives, which
gradually, and due to the
need to professionalize the
activity, were replaced by the
introduction of Langstroth
hives.
The geographical and
climatic characteristics of
our country contribute to
a wide dispersion of the
beekeepers, and 70% of
the national production
is carried out by people
belonging to the family
and indigenous agriculture
sectors, located all over the
country. The remaining 30%
corresponds to medium and
large-scale beekeepers, and
beekeeping entrepreneurs.
Therefore, family-type work
relationships predominate.
Our Federation emerged
in 1999 as a necessity
for representing the
beekeepers from different
parts of the country,
especially those belonging
to the family and indigenous
sectors. From the beginning,
we have put emphasis on the
development of sustainable
and professional apiculture,
and have defined our role
as one for representation,
defense, generation of
proposals and negotiation.
These have been our
guidelines for interaction
with other actors of the
national beekeeping chain,
and for maintaining a
permanent dialogue both
with government institutions
and with the private sector.
This collaboration exists
in the field of apiculture
and also in agriculture,
silviculture and livestock
raising, and we have been
working with these areas
to position apiculture as a
strategic factor for agrosilvicultural
production in the
country.
Our work, directed towards a
constant professionalization
of the activity, has generated
actions in coordination with
the national and international
beekeeping chains,
government institutions,
universities and research
centers, enterprises and
exporters. These include both

además del desarrollo
de subproductos como
bee packages), production
and recuperation of bees
Ministro de Agricultura
Message
Antonio Walker
Minister of Agriculture
One of the main guidelines of the Ministry of Agriculture is to
develop different public policies, in order to promote safety
food, quality in taste and sustainability, wich are produced in
special systems that are widely recognized.
This is why we feel a deep commitment to support the beekeeping
in Chile. This contributes to represent in a special way the ecologic
value, as well as, the cultural and social importance in the role of
the rural communities development.
The beehives in Chile pecorate our gorgeous native forest to obtain
unique hive products. The pollinator action supports a world class
food production. In addition, the high quality and performance of
the queenbees improve bee colonies in other countries.
This natural riches and cultural wealth that manage the bees
in Chile allow a colaborative work between the government,
beekeepers and scientists through our National Beekeeping
Commision, which aims to promote a sustainable sectorial
development.
To make this possible it is very important for us to have a
continous social dialogue as well as, a colaborative work between
beekeeping stakeholders, wich are mainly family farmers, that
are the focus of our public management.
As the Minister of Agriculture of Chile, I support the postulation of
our country to host the 48th version of the APIMONDIA Congress
in 2023, led by the Federation National Beekeeping Network.
Finally, as a Chilean citizen I invite all the World Beekeeping
Community to discover Chile and its natural beauties, of wich
Pablo Neruda wrote “In my country, spring comes from north to
south with its fragrance”.

At ProChile, we have the responsibility of contributing to the
social and economic development of our country through
the diversification and growth of its exports. Therefore, we are
deeply committed to the beekeeping industry in order to be the
next hosts of the APIMONDIA Congress in 2023.
The Chilean honey industry works with very high standards and
its development is the product of a strong collaboration between
the public and private sectors. Given these aspects and with the
support of ProChile, our honey can be enjoyed in many different
parts of the world.
The privilege of hosting an event of this magnitude would give
us the opportunity to showcase Chile and its natural qualities
to the beekeeping world, as well as offer a privileged location to
APIMONDIA.
Furthermore, this event would provide us with the opportunity to
show a technologically advanced Chile, where we are investing in
innovation and in the added-value of our industries, which places
us as pioneers and as a gateway for the world in Latin America.
Chile Apícola
Una Historia de Esfuerzo
Beekeeping Chile
A Story of Effort
The beekeeping adds more than a century and a half of history in our country,
and in the last decades there is a process of professionalization that manages to
value the qualities of a territory capable of producing honey of exceptional quality.
Following this is the work of hundreds of men and women, who believed and opted
for this activity.
El recorrido del Chile Apícola
se inicia con la llegada de
Apis mellífera al país en 1844,
introducida con la misión
de polinizar los cultivos
agrícolas, recogiendo con ello
la experiencia europea que
ya contaba con mediciones
de los efectos positivos de
las abejas en la producción
agrícola y frutícola.
En 1925 se realizó el
primer Congreso Nacional
y Latinoamericano de
Apicultura, celebrado en
la Universidad de Chile en
Santiago. En ese encuentro,
se constituyó la primera
organización apícola nacional
bajo la figura jurídica de
Corporación, y se tomaron
acuerdos para impulsar el
desarrollo apícola en el país,
que ya contaba con apicultores
en una amplia extensión de la
zona centro sur de Chile.
Entre la década del 60 y
comienzos de los 70, el
Estado aplicó un programa
de fomento de amplia
cobertura para modernizar el
rubro e integrarlo como una
actividad complementaria
a la ampliación de la matriz
productiva agrícola. Como
consecuencia, emergen
con fuerza la fruticultura y
horticultura que, junto con
otros rubros, hoy protagonizan
el Chile Alimentario y Forestal.
A fines de los 70 e inicios de
los 80, crece la demanda
por servicios de polinización
para la industria frutícola e
impulsa un nuevo proceso
de modernización del apiario
nacional.
Ciclo de Modernización
y Profesionalización
En la década del 90, los
organismos del Estado
promueven proyectos de
fomento local basados en
experiencias asociativas
de pequeños productores.
La sumatoria de inversión
privada y el aporte de
proyectos asociativos generan
una nueva oportunidad de
mercado para proveedores
The journey of the
Apicultural Chile begins
with the arrival of Apis
mellífera to the country
in 1844, introduced with
the mission to pollinate
agricultural crops, thereby
gathering the European
experience that already had
measurements of the positive
effects of bees on agricultural
production and fruit.
In 1925 the first National and
Latin American Beekeeping
Congress was held at
the University of Chile in
Santiago. In that meeting,
the first national beekeeping
organization was constituted
under the legal figure of
Corporation, and agreements
were made to boost
beekeeping development in
the country, which already
had beekeepers in a wide
area of the central south zone
of Chile.
Between the 60s and the
beginning of the 70s, the
State applied a program to
promote broad coverage
to modernize the area
and integrate it as a
complementary activity
to the expansion of the
agricultural production
matrix. As a consequence,
fruit and horticulture emerge
strongly, which, together
with other activities, are now
prominent in the Chilean
Food and Forestry Sector.
At the end of the 70s and
the beginning of the 80s,
the demand for pollination
services for the fruit industry
grew and promoted a new
process of modernization of
the national apiary.
Modernization and
Professionalization
Cycle
In the 1990s, state agencies
promoted local development
projects based on associative
experiences of small
producers. The sum of
etapa donde se incrementa la
inversión en infraestructura
y equipamiento de control
de calidad para cumplir
estándares de los nuevos
mercados.
Desde la perspectiva
organizacional, en la década
del 80 surgen las primeras
organizaciones gremiales.
Se formó la Federación
Apícola de Chile (FEDACHI),
que se mantiene activa
hasta inicios de los 90. A
fines de esa década se
articulan las organizaciones
locales territoriales de
diez regiones del país
apoyadas por el Instituto de
Desarrollo Agropecuario
(INDAP), dando nacimiento
a la Federación Red Apícola
Nacional (RAN). Se inicia
una gestión gremial con
mirada de país, convocando
a distintos actores públicos
y privados relacionados con
la apicultura para constituir
una instancia de coordinación
público privada, denominada
Mesa Apícola Nacional, cuya
primera tarea fue elaborar
una agenda estratégica
con una perspectiva de 15
a 20 años para impulsar el
desarrollo del sector.
Esta agenda estratégica
definió una ruta de trabajo
donde los organismos
estatales de fomento y
regulación, en conjunto con la
iniciativa privada y articulados
con entidades académicas
y de investigación, impulsan
un ciclo de modernización y
profesionalización.
contribution of associative
projects generate a new
market opportunity for
suppliers of inputs and
beekeeping equipment, as
well as a greater supply of
honey. The emergence of
economic actors specialized
in the export of honey, a
stage where investment
in infrastructure and
quality control equipment
is increased to meet the
standards of the new
markets.
From the organizational
perspective, in the decade of
the 80 the first trade union
organizations arise. The
Apicultural Federation of
Chile (FEDACHI) was formed,
which remains active until
the early 1990s. At the end
of that decade the local
territorial organizations of
ten regions of the country are
supported by the Institute of
Agricultural Development
(INDAP), giving birth to
the National Beekeeping
Network Federation
(RAN). Guild management
begins with a country look,
summoning different public
and private actors related
to beekeeping to constitute
an instance of publicprivate
coordination, called
the National Apicultural
Board, whose first task
was to develop a strategic
agenda with a perspective
of 15 to 20 years to boost the
development of the sector.
This strategic agenda
defined a work route where
state development and
regulation agencies, together
with private initiative and
articulated with academic and
research entities, promote a
cycle of modernization and
Public - Private Coordination
The public-private coordination of the sector was born with
the Apicultural Board in 2002, composed of organizations
of beekeepers, honey exporters, universities linked to
beekeeping, other agricultural business associations which
share the same territory in rural areas. Today this work is
undertaken by the National Beekeeping Commission which
is applied by presidential decree in 2013. It is chaired by
the Minister of Agriculture and its executive and technical
secretariats are the responsibility of the Office for Studies and
Policies of this Ministry. The Comission deals with Bee Health
and Nutrition, Sustainability and Territory, Professionalization
and Technology, as well as Quality and Market. It is important
to underline that the bid to host the 48th Apimondia 2023
Congress was prepared by the subcommission on Quality and
Markets, and then approved by the national commission.
Apicultura Chilena
Calidad Única
Chilean Beekeeping
Unique Quality
Ulmo, cuyas propiedades antioxidantes
y antibacteriales son ampliamente
reconocidas así como también las mieles
que proceden de variedades como el
quillay, azahar, avellanos y tiaca. Toda
sabor y aroma exclusivos.
Chile is the longest country in the world.
Beekeeping extends from the Atacama
Desert to Patagonia, from coastal towns
to the foothills of the Andes Mountains.
Thus, their products capture an infinity of
differentiating features.
The honey production model in
Chile involves a large number
of local producers, who individually
contribute to the chain that makes
up the national industry. This joint
work allows financial resources
to be distributed equitably in local
extraction areas, generating a
positive economic and social impact,
which has an impact on their growth
and development of the family and
indigenous agriculture sectors.
The variety of honey produced in
this part of the world implies a
constant journey through its native
forests, diversity of climates and
multiplicity of vegetation. Depending
on the geographical area, the climate
varies considerably, including the
desert in the north, the steppe and
Mediterranean regions, the vast
coastal edge and the rainy climates
in the south, both in temperate and
maritime areas. Many of the honey
produced here come from these
areas, which gives it differentiating
characteristics, attributable to its
biogeographic origin.
Further south between the Mountain
of Nahuelbuta, the Coast and the
Andes, the white-ivory purity of the
Ulmo flower sprouts. From this
species comes the well-known
Ulmo Honey, whose antioxidant and
antibacterial properties are widely
recognized as well as honeys that
come from varieties such as quillay,
orange blossom, hazelnut and tiaca.
A whole range of honey, is the result
of the rich and diverse floral variety of the
country, which have exclusive color, flavor
and aroma characteristics.

mercados nacionales e internacionales.
Joint work for competitiveness
Located in the southern tip of Latin America, Chile is a
country that follows with special interest the development
and growth of its food industry in the world. That is why it has
emphasized the safety of its products and has implemented the
traceability systems required by international markets, in order
to ensure in each of its processes the quality and conservation
of its characteristic features and natural flavors.
In this sense, there is an important investment in research,
development of new technologies, quality management, training
and laboratory analysis, actions that determine the botanical
origin of honey. This joint effort, both at the level of the State and
of the private company, is focused on satisfying the demanding
demand of the different international markets.
Another of the permanent emphasis of Apicultural Chile is
related to the professionalization of the national sector, which
has led to the fact that in recent decades this item has been
able to highly diversify its demand and involve and link a large
number of local producers, contributing to growth of the national
production chain.
All this has been possible thanks to the joint effort, developed
between state agencies, private companies, universities and
their local producers in order to meet the demanding demand
of the different national and international markets.

Polinización en Chile
Pollination in Chile
• Uno de los pilares
relevantes en el ingreso
económico de la apicultura
en Chile es hoy la venta de
servicios de polinización.
Éstos, comienzan a
profesionalizarse a fines de
la década de los setenta,
acompañados con el
desarrollo de la industria
frutícola y de producción de
semillas que caracterizan
hasta el día de hoy a nuestro
país.
• En la actualidad Chile posee
más 215 mil hectáreas
productivas entre frutales
y semilleros, las cuales
demandarían el servicio
de más de 1,8 millones de
colmenas por año.
• La actividad agrícola y
frutícola se distribuye
desde el extremo sur del
Desierto de Atacama hasta
la Patagonia Central. De
ahí la necesidad imperiosa
de contar con la prestación
de servicios de polinización,
debido a la gran variedad
climática, geográfica y de
producción que se extiende
en nuestro país desde
junio y hasta enero de cada
temporada.
• Los cultivos que hoy
demandan altamente los
servicios de polinización en
nuestro país son frutales,
semilleros de hortalizas,
flores, cultivos de maravilla
y raps.
• Y precisamente con el
desafío de avanzar en la
profesionalización del
sector para la prestación
de estos servicios, es que
en 2017 se generó una
alianza público-privada
entre tres importantes
gremios de Chile como son
la Asociación Nacional de
Productores de Semillas,
la Federación Red Apícola
Nacional y la Federación de
Productores de Fruta lo que
determinó una nueva hoja
de ruta y trabajo entre estas
organizaciones.
• Es importante destacar
que la consolidación de
esta alianza públicoprivada
se materializó con
la creación de un Manual
de Polinización de Cultivos
Agrícolas y su iniciativa
fue posible gracias al
apoyo y acompañamiento
de la Fundación para la
Innovación Agraria(FIA)
institución que pertenece al
Ministerio de Agricultura de
Chile.
• One of
the relevant pillars in
the economic income
of beekeeping in Chile
is currently the sale of
pollination services. These
begin to professionalize in
2
the late-70s, accompanied
by the development of
the fruit industry and
seed production that
characterize our country to
this day.
• Nowdays, Chile has more
than 215.000 productive
hectares (531.000 acres)
between fruit trees and
seed production, which
should requires per year
more than 1.8 million hives
to meet this demand.
• The agricultural and fruit
activity is distributed
from the southern end
of the Atacama Desert
to Central Patagonia.
Hence the imperative
need for pollination
service, due to the great
climatic, geographical and
production variety, which
extends in our country from
June to January of each
season.
• The crops that today
highly demand pollination
services in our country
are fruit trees, vegetable
seedlings, flowers,
marigold crops and raps.
• And precisely with the
challenge of advancing in
the professionalization of
the sector for the provision
of these services, it is that
in 2017 a public-private
alliance was generated
between three important
guilds of Chile such as the
National Association of
Seed Producers, the Red
Beekeeping Federation
National and the Federation
of Fruit Producers which
determined a new roadmap
and work between these
organizations.
• It is important to highlight
that the consolidation
of this public-private
alliance materialized
with the creation of a
Manual of Pollination of
Agricultural Crops and
its initiative was possible
Comercialización de Material
Vivo en Chile
Commercialization of
Live Material
a Colombia y Perú, esperando
prontamente lograr realizar
negocios con esos países que
requieren abejas europeas para
bajar su africanización y aumentar
la mansedumbre de las abejas para
la creciente industria de los servicios
de polinización de huertos frutales,
especialmente paltos y arándanos.
• Since 1980, along with the increase in fruit growing, there
has been a growth and professionalization of the beekeeping
sector in Chile, including the production of queens and cores.
• According to Ministry of Agriculture of Chile, the area with
crops requiring pollination services has almost doubled in
the last 20 years and continues to increase. This has been
an engine for the expansion of beekeepers who are engaged
in the production and sale of live material. According to the
Agricultural and Livestrock Service register of beekeepers,
of the almost 6300 beekeepers in the country, 1000 declare
this activity it is estimated that at least 100,000 queenbees are
traded in the domestic market.
• The Andes Mountains to the east and the Atacama Desert to
the north have maintained a condition of isolation of bees in
Chile. This has allowed that the sanitary condition is better
than the rest of the South American countries and that the
Africanized genetics has not entered as to the rest of America.
Together with Canada we are the only countries in America
where Africanized bees are not found.
• These conditions offer a great opportunity to be a supplier of
living material for other countries that require it. In 2008, the
export market to Canada for queen bees and bee packages
was opened, becoming the largest destination for these
products with 15,300 queens and 2,200 packages exported
in 2017. The European Union (France and Italy) is the second
destination, but in this case only queen bees, with 6,800 units
in 2017.
• Recently, the export market of queen bees to
Colombia and Peru has been opened, hoping
soon to do business with those countries
that require European bees to lower their
Africanization and increase the gentleness
for the growing industry of services of
pollination of fruit orchards, especially
avocados and blueberries.

Investigación
Apícola en Chile
Beekeeping
Research in Chile
asistentes a Apimondia 2023.
• In Chile, there is an increasing interest from local community
of scientist in order to develop certain researching lines
focused to improve the quality of Chilean bee products. In that
way, those findings have got better management of beehives
and its preventive and care treatments against the presence
of several bee diseases. Likewise, Academics, graduate and
undergraduate students have directed their efforts for setting
up an appropriate characterization of honeys with high value.
This last goal permitted the international recognition of the
biological properties of Chilean honey.
• Beekeeping has become a part of Chilean scientist’s concern
and it comes from different and multidisciplinary groups.
Their work includes equipment and first level infrastructure
available in prestigious Universities and Research Institutes
along the country. By this reason, based on studies conducted
on Chilean honeys a lot of promising results have been
obtained and all are published in European and North
American indexed journals. It is important to emphasize
that these achievements have been possible after plans and
strategies designed by collaborative interactions among
academic teams, governmental institutions and Chilean
beekeepers.
• Beekeeping exists in several regions of Chile and its
development has been directly related with the creation
of knowledge and the soundness of conclusions after
researching. The formation of high qualified human resources
specialized in topics of apiculture have become an important
key for supporting and enhancing this productive sector.
• Next challenges are coming over us for maintaining a
sustainable beekeeping activities. Beekeepers will face the
acute effects of global climate change, food deprivation for
bees and the appearance of novel diseases affecting beehives.
At the present time, Chilean scientists are already working on
and making analyses for those issues in order to get solutions
to the forthcoming events. Of course, those results will be
shared with all the attendants to Apimondia 2023.

INDAP
Apoya a Los Apicultores de La Agricultura Familiar
Campesina.
INDAP
Supports Rural Family Agricultural Beekeepers.
In Chile there are about 6,300 beekeepers registered
with 985,466 hives, of which 4,000 are small farmers
supported by the Ministry of Agriculture through the
Institute of Agricultural Development (INDAP). The vast
majority is dedicated to the production of honey (98%),
to pollination (26%) and to the sale of living material
For the national director of INDAP, Carlos Recondo,
“beekeeping, like other productive activities, goes
through cycles in which it faces difficulties, and the
best way to solve the problems is united. This is the
importance of beekeeping and the work carried out by
small beekeepers, who with quality productions have
been able to approach external markets and show that
they are able to export their products. ”
Likewise, through the promotion programs of INDAP,
they are being given training, technical advice and
investments to add value to honey. In Chile, almost
170 gr.(0,3 pounds) of honey are consumed per year
per capita. This number, compared to other countries,
like Germany for example, where 3 kilos (6,6 pounds)
are consumed, is a very low amount. This has led to
varying sales formats to make them more attractive
and accessible to consumers.
Today its products are being marketed by INDAP in
Sector Apícola
Busca Consolidar su Potencial Exportador
Beekeeping
Seeks to Consolidate its Export Potential
contribuye a dicho desarrollo.
Beekeeping plays a very important role in the national
agricultural sector, not only for the volumes of honey
and other products of the hive, but also for the role that
pollination plays in other areas of national agriculture,
where FIA has sought to strengthen this important
sector.
The Foundation for Agricultural Innovation (FIA)
of the Ministry of Agriculture has supported the
beekeeping sector with innovation tools to increase the its
competitiveness, whose application has allowed progress
in its modernization.
It has promoted a country vision, on the basis of which
Chilean beekeeping can be recognized in international
markets as a provider of high quality honey associated
with a territory of excellence.
Consequently one of the axes of FIA, is being an articulating
entity of the development of the sector through the
coordination of the “Professionalization and Technology”
subcommission created under the eaves of the National
Beekeeping Commission as well as promoting innovation
initiatives that contribute to develop the sector.
One of the last contributions made was the preparation
of the first Manual of the Pollinator, thanks to the
articulation of a public-private network between the
Foundation for Agrarian Innovation (FIA), the National
Association of Seed Producers (ANPROS), the National
Beekeeping Network (RAN) and the Federation of Fruit
Producers (FEDEFRUTA), with the objective of advancing
in the priority matters for the professionalization of the
apicultural sector.
FIA is currently working on some projects to differentiate
honey produced in Chile, giving it added value, since
today this product is exported in bulk and without

differentiation. One of the initiatives in execution is related
to the development of honey with an organic beekeeping
seal and in a biodegradable container.
The challenges of this industry are varied, so FIA also led
the realization of the Agricultural Innovation Agenda for
Beekeeping, a tool to support the beekeeping sector with
a long-term vision. This instrument seeks to contribute
to the construction of an integral view of the innovation
requirements of the sector; in order to contribute to
professionalization it, have information and tools for the
management of the beekeeping activity, position our
country as suppliers of honey of excellent quality, with
distinctive stamps that are recognized worldwide, among
others.

SAG
Servicio Agrícola y Ganadero
SAG
Agricultural and Livestock Service
El Servicio Veterinario Oficial de Chile, es
el Servicio Agrícola y Ganadero (SAG),
el cual es una institución perteneciente
del Ministerio de Agricultura. Su función
es apoyar el desarrollo de la ganadería,
incluyendo la apicultura, a través de la
protección y mejoramiento de la sanidad
y el bienestar animal, garantizando la
inocuidad de los productos pecuarios,
siendo de gran relevancia los productos
apícolas de exportación.
El país presenta una baja prevalencia
de enfermedades apícolas, lo que ha
permitido al rubro desarrollar una
apicultura principalmente destinada
a la exportación. Esto se respalda
en que el Servicio, en conjunto con
los productores, utilizan un sistema
de detección temprana, basado en
la vigilancia activa de enfermedades
de denuncia obligatoria. Esto implica
la inspección clínica de los apiarios
seleccionados en base a riesgo, que
incluye la toma de muestra para análisis
en un laboratorio oficial. Por otra parte,
el sistema de vigilancia pasiva, que
consiste en la atención de denuncias de
morbilidad y mortalidad efectuada por
parte de terceros. Otra vía de detección
de enfermedades es la inspección que
se realiza al momento de la certificación
zoosanitaria para exportación, de
productos de la colmena o material
vivo. Aquí se realiza una búsqueda para
detectar enfermedades, que están
definidas dentro de los requisitos del
país de destino.
Adicionalmente, el SAG tiene
implementado un sistema de registro
denominado SIPEC Apícola, que
involucra a toda la cadena productiva;
esta herramienta permite garantizar
la sanidad y trazabilidad de dichos
productos; de esta manera se asegura,
a las autoridades de los servicios
veterinarios de los países de destino
de las exportaciones, que las partidas
certificadas no constituyen riesgo para
la sanidad apícola y humana de su
territorio.
The Official Veterinary Service of Chile is
the Agricultural and Livestock Service
(SAG), which is an institution belonging
to the Ministry of Agriculture. Its function
is to support the development of
livestock, including beekeeping, through
the protection and improvement of
animal health and welfare, guaranteeing
the safety of livestock products, being of
great importance the export beekeeping
products.
The country has a low prevalence of
apicultural diseases, which has allowed
the area to develop an apiculture
mainly for export. This is supported by
the fact that the Service, together with
the producers, uses an early detection
system, based on the active surveillance
of mandatory reporting diseases.
This involves the clinical inspection of
selected apiaries based on risk, which
includes sampling for analysis in an
official laboratory. On the other hand,
the passive surveillance system, which
consists of the attention of complaints
of morbidity and mortality made by
third parties. Another way of detecting
diseases is the inspection carried out at
the time of the animal health certification
for export of products from the hive or
live material. Here a search is carried
out to detect diseases, which are defined
within the requirements of the country of
destination.
Additionally, the SAG has implemented a
registration system called SIPEC Apícola,
which involves the entire production
chain; This tool ensures the health and
traceability of these products; In this
way, the authorities of the veterinary
services of the countries of destination
of the exports are assured that the
certified items do not constitute a risk
to the beekeeping and human health of
their territory.
