La instalación, construida originalmente por la empresa Von Roll, hace poco ha sido objeto de una importante modernización en la que se ha reconstruido por completo la unidad de control con la tecnología de vanguardia de Frey Stans. La sección 1, inaugurada en 1991, se convirtió en el primer teleférico del mundo en incorporar el avanzado sistema 3S. Con capacidad para 1.490 personas por hora, sortea de manera eficiente la distancia entre la estación inferior a 1.782 metros y la estación superior a 2.590 metros. La siguiente sección, construida en 1994, se basó en su predecesora y permitió ampliar el sistema desde el punto de vista tecnológico; esta sección va de los 2.590 a los 2.980 metros. 25
