One of the rarest of all German iconographies on medical plants
and a most remarkable illustrated work These volumes contain
the complete series of altogether 318 handcoloured lithographed
plates of medical plants, flowers, and fruits, as well as the lithogr.
portrait of Linnaeus in frontispiece. All plates lithographed after
drawings by Johann Gottlieb Mann, many plates are signed
“J.G.M.”, “J.G.M. fecit”, or “gez. u. lith. J.M.G”, part of the
plates are signed “Lith. von F.F. Schmidt”, or “lith E.M.” (E.
Mann). The plates show medical plants, some with their roots,
with their fruit and flowers in detail, mostly in a larger size than
in nature! Especially the second volume is of extreme rarity.
