Le Défi De Vivre Une Vie Chrétienne Authentique Chapitre 2 – La Perception Apostolique : L’Éternité C’est pourquoi nous ne perdons pas courage. Et lors même que notre homme extérieur se détruit, notre homme intérieur se renouvelle de jour en jour. Car nos légères afflictions du moment présent produisent pour nous, au delà de toute mesure, un poids éternel de gloire, parce que nous regardons, non point aux choses visibles, mais à celles qui sont invisibles ; car les choses visibles sont passagères, et les invisibles sont éternelles. (2 Corinthiens 4:16–18) Il y a un danger que nous écarterons ce<strong>la</strong> comme une sorte de rhétorique biblique, une sorte de manière fantasque de parler particulière à Paul et fassions un signe de tête avec une sorte de consentement que c’est doux à entendre, mais en perdant complètement ce qui est dit. La <strong>fondation</strong> de <strong>la</strong> façon de penser <strong>apostolique</strong>, cependant, est une vraie appréhension des choses qui sont éternelles, pas anticipativement à une jouissance future, mais dans une appropriation présente et c’est ce qui rend l'église particulière. Nous n'avons aucune idée combien important est le sujet de l'éternité. Perdre le sens de ce mot est perdre tout et ce<strong>la</strong> condamnera l'église à être mondaine et ordinaire, institutionnelle et mécanique, une <strong>la</strong>ssitude de <strong>la</strong> chair, au lieu d'une joie et d'une puissance. En d'autres termes, l'absence d'éternité dans <strong>la</strong> conscience de l'église <strong>la</strong> défigure et l’invalide d’être l'église. Nous allons devoir affronter pour cette réalité, parce que le monde ne lui est pas hospitalier. Paul n’a pas seulement trouvé cette dimension éternelle, il y est demeuré aussi et néanmoins ce<strong>la</strong> ne l'a pas condamné à l'inconséquence. Au contraire, il l'a rendu d'autant plus pertinent et c’est ce que nous devons faire aussi. Dans <strong>la</strong> citation ci-dessus des Saintes Écritures, nous trouvons deux références au mot éternel. L'éternité était quelque chose qui était devenue si puissamment réel à Paul qu'elle a affecté ses considérations présentes et a eu des conséquences pratiques pour sa vie. "Cette affliction du moment présent, légère" doit être <strong>la</strong> déc<strong>la</strong>ration d'un homme qui a jeté tout critère raisonnable et même <strong>la</strong> rationalité au vent (Paul était un homme qui avait été naufragé, avait été battu de verges, <strong>la</strong>issé pour mort, défoncé, injurié, persécuté et diffamé, etc.), à moins qu’il ait une norme ou une mesure de choses dont nous ne savons rien. La vue <strong>apostolique</strong> perçoit des choses que d'autres ne voient pas et mesure par une mesure que d'autres ne comprennent pas. Il voit <strong>la</strong> souffrance rédemptrice dans cette vie comme étant simplement momentané et légère. L'église doit venir à cette vue, car cette vue est <strong>la</strong> réalité <strong>apostolique</strong> et <strong>la</strong> vérité. Ce que Paul est, l'église doit l’être. Paul ne s'est jamais demeuré dans ses souffrances de quelque façon morbide, mais il les écarte comme étant momentanées et légères et il a pu le faire seulement sur <strong>la</strong> base d'une chose, à savoir, <strong>la</strong> capacité d'entrevoir le poids éternel de gloire. Ce n'est pas un luxe que nous pouvons considérer 'd'avoir' ou ‘de ne pas avoir.’ C'est une exigence totale, <strong>apostolique</strong> pour quelqu'un qui a des intentions sérieuses avec Dieu. Le fait que nous n'avons pas encore connu de souffrance indique où nous avons été jusqu'à maintenant, à savoir, là où nous exerçons une sorte de foi moindre s’il s’agit de foi qui n'a pas excité <strong>la</strong> haine du monde contre nous. 43
