Hiking Born to be Wild

Première chose étonnante, la compacité de la tente pliée dans sa housse. Quand on l’a dans les
mains, on se dit qu’elle n’est pas bien grande. Un bon point car du coup, elle rentre facilement
dans un sac à dos ou ne prend que peu de place sur le dessus ou en dessous du sac. Chacun
range son matos comme il veut !
Autre chose étonnante, les arceaux prémontés. En gros, au lieu d’être pliés et rangés dans une
pochette à part, ils sont chacun déjà attachés à la tente grâce à un anneau dans lequel ils sont
passés. Donc, une fois la tente déroulée par terre, il n’y a qu’à déplier les arceaux et à les faire
passer dans les fourreaux. En 1 minute, c’est bouclé !
Petit bémol sur le poids (2,7kg pour 2 places), compensé par un atout majeur : la tente est
autoportante. Pas besoin de monter la chambre intérieure puis le toit, tout se monte d’un seul
coup. Mais pour que les absides et la toile se tiennent correctement, il faut quand même planter
quelques sardines.
Une fois terminé, le montage donne naissance à une forme originale. D’un côté elle ressemble
un peu à une chouette, de l’autre à un sauteur en wingsuit !
La QuickHiker II a deux absides et deux portes. Résultat : chacun a son espace de rangement et
son accès. Génial pour sortir en pleine nuit sans déranger son ou sa partenaire de bivouac.
Pratique aussi pour installer les matelas et les duvets avant la nuit.
À l’intérieur, on a une belle impression d’espace. La hauteur sous toit est assez importante pour
se tenir à genoux confortablement.
Côté démontage, c’est aussi facile et rapide que le montage. Il n’y a pas trop à réfléchir.
On ressort les arceaux de leur fourreau et on les replie au niveau de l’anneau de maintien.
Bref, une tente bien pensée pour les randonneurs soucieux de ne pas perdre de temps.
The first surprising thing is how compact the folded tent is in its bag. When it’s in your hands you
have the impression that it must be pretty small. A valuable feature because it slips easily into a
backpack or takes up very little space above or below the pack. Each to their own for storing their
kit!
Another surprising detail is the preassembled arches. In other words instead of being folded and
put in a separate bag they are already attached inside the tent thanks to a small ring that they
have been threaded through. So once the tent has been unfolded onto the ground you only have
to unfold the arches and poke them through the sheaths. It’s done in a flash!
Small drawback on the weight (2.7 kg for a 2-person tent), offset by a major asset: the tent is
freestanding. No need to put up an interior, it all mounts together in one fell swoop. But to make
sure that the sides are held in place correctly, you do need to plant a few pegs.
After assembly you are rewarded with a very original shape. From one side it looks a bit like an
owl and from the other like a basejumper in a wingsuit!
The QuickHiker II has two sides and two doors. Result: each person has his/her own space and
access. Perfect for nipping out in the middle of the night without annoying your bivouac partner.
Also, it’s very practical for putting in the mattresses and sleeping bags before dark.
Once inside we have a real impression of space with enough height under the roof to kneel
comfortably.
Packing it away it is just as quick and easy as the assembly. Simple. You remove the arches from
their sheaths and fold them at the level of the ring.
A well thought out tent for hikers not wishing to waste time.
