E-Learning—the <strong>de</strong>sign and creation of digital media that are used in interactive<br />

learning products, predominantly <strong>de</strong>livered via the web, but also increasingly through<br />

mobile and wire<strong>les</strong>s <strong>de</strong>vices. From a content creation perspective, the focus is more on<br />

the <strong>de</strong>sign and creation of e-learning products rather than the <strong>de</strong>sign and/or<br />

distribution of content management systems and software.<br />

Mobile content—the <strong>de</strong>sign and creation of digital media that are used in interactive<br />

mobile applications, such as games, educational programs and interactive information<br />

services. From a content creation perspective, the focus is on the <strong>de</strong>sign, creation, and<br />

<strong>de</strong>ployment of mobile content rather than carrier software applications, p<strong>la</strong>tform, and<br />

transmission software.<br />

Interactive <strong>de</strong>sign/Web 2.0—the <strong>de</strong>sign and creation of digital media that are used in<br />

web based applications and that enable user generated content to be <strong>de</strong>veloped and<br />

<strong>de</strong>ployed (ie Web 2.0). From a content creation perspective, the focus is more on <strong>de</strong>sign<br />

and implementation that supports interactivity. Traditional web page <strong>de</strong>velopment falls<br />

somewhat into this category, but the greater focus is a broa<strong>de</strong>r <strong>de</strong>sign and interactive<br />

sensibility.<br />

Digital film and animation—the <strong>de</strong>sign and creation of film and animation products that<br />

are predominantly <strong>de</strong>veloped using digital media and technologies, primarily those taking<br />

an interactive approach. The main interest is the convergence of digital film and<br />

animation into interactive products, including open narrative, user generated content<br />

contributions, audience interactivity, and ‘agency’ within the actual narrative.<br />

Interactive entertainment—the <strong>de</strong>sign and creation of digital media that are used in<br />

interactive entertainment products, such as console games, massively multip<strong>la</strong>yer online<br />

games, strategy games, and others. From a content creation perspective, the focus is on<br />

the content and assets <strong>de</strong>sign rather than the game engine technologies, ren<strong>de</strong>ring<br />

methods, and p<strong>la</strong>tform tools.<br />
