<strong>HemCon</strong> <strong>Bandage</strong><br />

<strong>Instructions</strong> <strong>for</strong> <strong>Use</strong>:<br />

1. Apply dressing directly over actively bleeding wound with tan<br />

backing away from wound.<br />

2. Apply pressure to the backing <strong>for</strong> 2 minutes, or longer if<br />

required <strong>for</strong> dressing to adhere and bleeding to stop.<br />

3. Apply outer bandage wrap (not included) to secure dressing<br />

on wound site, if required.<br />

4. If bandage fails to adhere; remove bandage, wipe wound with<br />

gauze, apply new bandage.<br />

5. Remove dressing within 48 hours with saline or sterile water.<br />

Cautions / Warnings: Do not use if seal is broken and/or contents are wet. Do not apply<br />

over eyes. <strong>Use</strong> promptly after opening. Contains chitosan from shellfish. For external use<br />

only, do not implant. Not <strong>for</strong> consumption, do not eat. Single use only. Do not resterilize.<br />

Seek Medical Attention: If bleeding does not stop or redness or swelling occurs. If you<br />

suspect an allergic reaction. For severe wounds that have breeched the dermis to avoid<br />

potential complications due to internal bleeding.<br />

Description: The <strong>HemCon</strong> <strong>Bandage</strong> is a wound dressing manufactured from chitosan.<br />

The <strong>HemCon</strong> <strong>Bandage</strong>, when applied directly to the wound, controls bleeding caused by<br />

extreme trauma. The <strong>HemCon</strong> <strong>Bandage</strong> is an antibacterial barrier as demonstrated by<br />

AATCC Test Method 100-2004, Evaluation of Antibacterial Finishes (Technical Manual<br />

of the American Association of Textile Chemists and Colorists) in laboratory testing with<br />

Staphylococcus aureus and Klebsiella pneumonia.<br />

Intended <strong>Use</strong> / Indications: The <strong>HemCon</strong> <strong>Bandage</strong> is a hemostatic dressing <strong>for</strong> the<br />

external, temporary control of severely bleeding wounds intended <strong>for</strong> emergency use. In<br />

addition, the Hemcon <strong>Bandage</strong> also controls bleeding in patients following hemodialysis.<br />

Storage Conditions: Best stored at room temperature.<br />
