AAFI-AFICS AUTUMN EXCURSION
WELCOME TO THE BALTIC COUNTRIES
Departure: Friday 2 September – Return: Sunday 11 September 2005
in architectural treasures and unique landscapes. There are a multitude of reasons that the
three Baltic countries – Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania – have become, since acquiring their
independence, one of the favourite and more original destinations for those who are fervent
admirers of art, history and natural life. Here is a brief outline of the itinerary:
ESTONIA
Estonia is rich in history and its fascinating
medieval capital, Tallinn, is one of the cities of
Europe that has best conserved its 13 th to 16 th
century architecture. Tallinn is a UNESCO
world heritage city. The Old Town has an
immense wealth of churches and palaces, from
the gothic Town Hall to the homes of
merchants and artisans used in the Middle
Ages also as storehouses. The tour will visit
Peter the Great’s Palace and park at Kadriorg,
built in 1717, the residence of the President of
the Republic and the Olympic centre. A day
