THOROUGHLY MODERN GRANNY
JOKES
I have a special Granny, she’s really very old, but also unconventional in a most unusual mould.
She doesn’t wear her spectacles perched upon her nose; she’s into contact lenses and varnishes her
toes.
Unlike other Grannies who are home before it’s dark, she dresses in a tracksuit and goes jogging in
the park.
And when I wish she’d sometimes stay and tuck me up in bed, she’s off to study yoga and standing on
her head.
Some Grannies sit in rocking chairs and crochet shawls indoors; my Granny jumps upon a horse and
makes off to the moors.
She goes on day trips with her gang, the over sixties club. They ramble round the countryside and
end up in a pub!
And on the homeward journey, like a flock of singing birds, they harmonise old favourites with some
very naughty words!
I love my Granny millions; I think she’s really great so if that’s what growing old is like, I simply cannot
wait.
ROUND PEG IN SQUARE HOLES?
My friend Roger has been job hunting. But, although he has tried a number of careers, nothing seems
to be suitable. He has sent me a note about his recent endeavours.
“I tried working in an orange juice factory but I got so canned and couldn’t concentrate. Then I worked
in the woods as a lumberjack but I couldn’t hack it, so they gave me the axe. After that I tried to be a
tailor but I just wasn’t suited for it, mainly because it was sew-sew job. Then I tried to be a chef, I
figured it would add a little spice to my life but I just didn’t have the thyme. I attempted to work in a
delicatessen but any way I sliced it I couldn’t cut the mustard. My best job was being a musician but
eventually I found I wasn’t noteworthy. Then I studied a long time to become a doctor, but I didn’t
have any patience. Next was a job in a shoe factory – I tried but I just didn’t fit in. I even became a
professional fisherman but discovered I couldn’t live on my net income. I managed to get a good job
working for a plumbing company but the work was too draining so I went to work at a coffee shop but I
had to quit – it was the same old grind. Finally, I found the perfect job as a historian. Sadly, there was
no future in it”.
