I avoided catching my wife’s eye with the same assiduity as I avoided falling into a rut. Aren’t those
geraniums lovely? I said, looking out of the window.
And so back to the garage. The parking ticket: who had this?
Don’t you have it? asked my wife.
No, I said, that being the case.
Was the entente cordiale unravelling? Was a rift opening between us? Was it wide enough to be
called a rut?
My wife emptied her bag, it wasn’t there. I emptied my pockets, it wasn’t there. My wife emptied her
bag again, it still wasn’t there. We were blocked. Would we have to walk home? How does one call
the rescue service? Is there a rescue service? Should we call the police? Or the fire service?
There was a phone next to the cash machine; I read the instructions and learnt how to phone Paris but
no word about how to be rescued. Did one, perhaps, have to approach the Director of the garage via
Paris? Would I have to call Chirac?
My wife found a flat surface and up-ended her bag and her wallet for the third time; I up-ended my
pockets also for the third time. .Do you know how many pockets I had? Eight! Yes, eight. Two side
pockets on my trousers and one back pocket. Two side pockets on my jacket, one vest pocket and
two inside pockets. Well, would you believe it, third time lucky, as the saying goes.
We got home, a little the worse for wear perhaps, and oh! how very calm, peaceful and restful it was to
be home. The same comforting and comfortable feeling you have when you just let yourself fall into a
…
Oh, no, no; none of that. We would continue the fight to avoid falling into a rut.
la Nature sous la loupe
A site, which has been created by our member Dimitri Geystor. This is a personal site, essentially
image-oriented; most of the photographs it contains were taken over several years within walking
distance of Mr. Geystor’s home, in the South-West of France. It contains close-up views, in the form of
an album of live photos, showing common insects and spiders, too tiny or too fast-moving, and
therefore rarely noticed by most people. Captions have been kept to a minimum and the pages are
easy to turn. Dimitri welcomes you to come and browse, and he hopes that you will enjoy and learn a
bit from the visit.
Having visited it I strongly recommend our members to open this colorful and impressive collection.
