The destiny of this artist
is truly exceptional.
Romanian David Nicolae,
who has been a political
refuge in Switzerland
since 1979, was locked up
by the communist regime
for five years.
This tragedy did not
prevent him from living
his life as an artist and he
managed to complete his
studies at Bucharest’s fine
arts academy. Although
he painted the horrors
of the regime when he
was younger, using burnt
wood and blood on the
portraits of his prison
cell mates, he managed
to extirpate himself from
this thematic to turn to
the love of life.
An impressionist at soul, he has extensively worked for
the monuments department of the City of Geneva and
has shown his work in several Swiss museums and private
collections. David Nicolae sublimates all that he sees
using bright colours and strong movements.
Enamoured with poetry, the 83 years old man tells us
beautiful stories through portraits, scenes of life, paintings
of animals, always sublimating the human or animal
silhouette to share all his emotions, energy and strength
of life.
David Nicolae is a true resilient, a man who succeeded in
transfiguring his personal tragedies to create a universal
art that touches us right in our hearts.
