The Labor government
should promptly reform NDIS
The Labor government has been so far so
good into power for three weeks. The Essential
poll indicates a net increase of support for 40%.
Albanese sworn in as PM on Monday and was
right in a visit to Japan for a QUAD meeting on
regional security, followed by a visit to our neighbour
Indonesia, then a catchup with our closest national
leader Jacinda Ardern of NZ. Foreign Minister Penny
Wong has been dedicating in her visits to several
South Pacific island nations counteracting China’s
foreign strategy, to make sure we have a safe
backyard.
There has been not much change on internal
policies still, yet they have an election promise
on the reformation of NDIS (National Disability
Insurance Scheme). The Scheme was in chaos
when the former Labor leader Shorten became the
NDIS minister for just a few weeks. CEO Martin
Hoffman resigned to the Board and left in three
weeks. Many of the board members came from
actuary, financial and management background,
they lacked the association to serve people with
disabilities. The Labor government is likely to
restructure the NDIS starting from the top.
The former Coalition government believed
giving subsidy to people with disabilities could allow
them acquiring their needs through the free market.
But if the clients are not sure of what are available
to meet their needs, they are unable to weigh
between options of social services in the market.
After a few years under the Scheme it appears that
people in need might not get the independence and
improvement as expected, while those with better
ability could become more dependent.
The intended financial monitoring was not
adequate, resulting in numerous frauds, while
frequent complaints on services indicated that
people in charge were not cut for the job. By only
giving out money without developing more quality
services could only lead to deterioration of the
service and a failure of the Scheme.
Shorten came down from losing the election
before. As the serving minister on NDIS, he would
certainly and promptly do his best for an outcome to
revive his reputation in the Party. More importantly
is to take care of the multicultural communities as
obviously they were being neglected by the Scheme,
given they represent almost 45% of the population
but only 9.2% of the Scheme’s participants. In
last NDIS’s annual report, the management made
a very irresponsible excuse saying that their low

HAVAL H6 ULTRA Hybrid SUV 2022

Great Wall Motor’s 2022 Haval H6 ULTRA
Hybrid SUV is a true hybrid, including an
electric motor and a turbocharged petrol
backup.
This All-New H6 Hybrid is not just
a sophisticated advanced SUV, it is a
statement.
The H6 ULTRA’s value-for-money has
been set from $45,990 drive-away, which is
a great deal for a car in this class, given that
it comes with all the latest smart technology,
an outstanding safety, and finishes. Standard
features like a 10.25-inch digital instruments
cluster, a second 12.3-inch multimedia
touchscreen, heated and ventilated front
seats, wireless charging, a head-up display,
heated steering wheel, power tailgate, and
massive panoramic sunroof. The whole
electric/petrol drive system was completely
seamless when driving the car.
For the dimensions, the H6 is larger than
most mid-sized SUVs but smaller than the
large SUV; 4,653mm length, 1,886mm width
and 1,724mm height.
Seven exterior colours are available;
Crayon Grey, Blue Sapphire, Burgundy Red,
Hamilton Whit, Ayers Grey, Golden Black,
and Energy Green. An extra $495 for metallic
paint.
Competition is Toyota RAV4 Hybrid, Mazda
CX-5, Hyundai Tucson, Kia Sportage, Honda
CR-V, and relative newcomer MG HS.
The 7-speed gearbox, along with intelligent
electronics, combines the two engines so
that you are never aware of whether you
are running on battery or petrol. The H6’s
suspension tune still transmits a bit of road
noise.
Safety Features:
Front, front-side, and curtain airbags plus a
front-centre airbag
The SUV’s exterior is stylish, sharp,
and appealing. The 19-inch alloy wheels,
panoramic sunroof, and electric tailgate
certainly add to its attractiveness. Moreover,
the chrome exterior trim highlights things up,
along with a full-width LED light bar at the
rear. Compared to rivals, the H6’s exterior is
up with newest trends in modernity and style.
Inside, the cabin is modern, without
compromising comfort. The trim is very natty
with a metallic-looking plastic feature strip on
the base model.
The 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster
is great for a car of this range. Furthermore,
the 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen also
bumps up the ULTRA’s prestige. However,
to adjust the fan speed or temperature, you
have to use the touchscreen, which could be
difficult when driving.
The ULTRA features a heated steering
wheel, electric exterior mirrors and seats,
great for colder climates. The passenger seat
is well-equipped, electrically adjustable in 4
ways. A wireless smartphone charging outlet,
ambient cabin lighting, anti-glare rear-view
mirror, and rear privacy glass also add to the
functionality of the interior.
The front seats are noticeably plush and
more comfortable than the previous version
of the H6, while the second row is also quite
comfortable. Families have backseat access
to 2 USB outlets, air vents, and a fold-down
armrest with cup holders. Moreover, the
second row features a surprising amount of
head and leg room, beating out the RAV4
and CX-5. The luggage area includes 600-L
if you are using the second row, expanding to
1,485-L upon folding second-row seats down.
We loved the party trick of selfparking,
voice control on many of the cars'
accessories and features, the simplicity of
the 3 displays, and the lack of knobs and
switches. There is not even a gear stick
or parking brake, swapping them out for a
simple turning knob and a quick flick switch to
park the car.
Driving, we find the H6 Ultra Hybrid a
refined SUV fitted with seven “NVH acoustic
package” with hardly any road and wind
noise. Ride comfort is generally acceptable,
on bumps it is as good as we expected from
the high-profile tyres.
Parking, we also find the parking cameras
are better than most rival offerings. The
screen does not only show you a bird’s

eye 360 view, it lets you move around an
