Australians are daunted and disappointed by
the news that the Ex-PM Morrison had secretly
appointed himself into five ministerial positions
during the period March 2020 to May 2021.
On Tuesday the Solicitor-General stated in his
report that the appointments were legal and valid.
But without making them public could make it hard
to hold whoever accountable for those ministerial
duties and decisions thus not the way to work for
a responsible government. PM Albanese said
Morrison must be held responsible for this incident
but it would still be his personal choice as to whether
he should resign from the Parliament.
Many of us are puzzled by the incident as the
appointments were kept in the dark and Morrison
had only exercised his ministerial role once in
making a governance decision. To see this as a
power abuse, secrecy or dictatorship may not be
the truth. According to Morrison’s explanation,
this act was aimed to cope with the pandemic for
‘special need’ purposes although he admitted it was
unnecessary with hindsight. We are open to take his
words or we can accept his move.
I rather see a human weakness of Morrison
when he chose to address the issue this way. The
two appointments in March 2020 were indeed
related to the pandemic. But while in disagreement
with the Minister of Resource, he relied on this
appointment for ministerial interference in his own
political interest bypassing an open dialogue. This
could not be an abuse of power because as a PM he
could override his ministers or even stand them off
with the agreement of the Governor General.
From ‘special need’ to ‘personal tactic’ can be
worrying in governance. But the Labor government
being the opposition party then obviously had failed
its duty during the pandemic for not checking up
those cabinet policies all made up by the PM and
the state premiers. They did not raise a question on
their inappropriate exercising of those ministerial
duties. We need to further investigate is there
something wrong with the system to allow such an
incident. Opposition party should have a role in this,
and while Albanese wants to investigate Morrison he
should also review other ministers and his own party
for identifying the underlying problems.
For sure Morrison’s disgraceful ‘ministerial
incident’ has adversely impacted on the Liberal
Party.

口 亦 中 招 了 , 令 本 雜 誌 不 得 不 停 刊 一 期 。 雖 然 我 們 的 症 狀 沒 有 一 個 人 處 於 嚴 重 病 態 , 但 自 我 隔 離 7 日 亦 的 確 令 人 煩 惱 。 正 所 謂 針 沒 有 兩 頭 利 , 相 對 在 疫 情 嚴 重
的 封 城 禁 足 , 令 墨 爾 本 幾 變 死 城 , 社 會 經 濟 陷 入 災 難 性 困 局 下 , 肥 b 個 人 認 為 , 只 要 大 家 小 心 慬 慎 , 這 個 風 險 大 家 仍 然 無 奈 要 冒 一 冒 的 。
話 說 在 疫 情 之 前 , 粵 菜 館 本 已 買 少 見 少 了 ( 關 門 ), 疫 情 過 後 , 情 況 當 然 不 會 好 到 那 裡 去 了 。 雖 然 有 人 棄 官 , 但 仍 然 是 有 人 愛 險 中 求 勝 , 而 最 近 有 朋 友 告 之 ,
位 於 Bayswater 火 車 站 附 近 有 一 間 粵 菜 館 炮 製 的 「 大 鱔 兩 食 」 非 常 好 吃 。 稍 後 另 有 好 友 說 那 家 食 肆 中 午 的 「 鳳 爪 排 骨 」 盅 頭 飯 亦 不 錯 。 於 是 這 個 周 日 , 在 兒 子
閉 關 七 日 後 , 一 家 四 口 走 去 試 一 試 , 實 行 化 悲 憤 為 食 慾 , 飽 餐 一 頓 。
Bayswater 區 自 樓 價 上 漲 下 , 遷 移 入 住 該 區 的 人 口 漸 漸 增 多 , 背 靠 火 車 站 附 近 發 展 食 肆 及 商 店 林 立 , 近 期 在 這 裡 就 新 開 了 一 間 粵 菜 館 《 聚 福 》, 餐 堂 優 雅 明
亮 , 可 容 80 人 左 右 。
當 日 是 週 日 晚 已 見 座 無 虛 席 , 我 們 點 了 「 粉 絲 XO 醬 蒸 帶 子 」 作 頭 盤 , 選 用 的 帶 子 鮮 甜 , 爽 口 彈 牙 , 一 開 始 就 有 一 個 不 錯 的 感 覺 。
之 後 再 點 了 三 個 小 菜 ,「 芥 蘭 炒 蝦 餅 」、「 鐵 板 海 玉 子 豆 腐 」、「 芋 頭 扣 肉 煲 」。 好 食 的 出 品 , 不 外 乎 「 色 香 味 」 三 個 字 , 就 以 「 芥 蘭 炒 蝦 餅 」, 上 碟 擺 設
頗 美 觀 , 色 自 然 有 了 ; 上 枱 時 熱 辣 辣 , 菜 香 撲 鼻 , 引 人 食 慾 ; 最 後 是 味 道 了 , 蝦 餅 爽 滑 , 而 芥 蘭 相 信 是 精 挑 細 選 , 小 菜 一 碟 , 卻 能 稍 見 廚 師 功 力 , 肥 b 留 下 了 一
個 好 印 象 。 另 外 兩 味 中 規 中 矩 ,
我 兩 夫 婦 白 飯 一 人 吃 了 一 碗 , 已 是 近 年 少 見 。 至 於 價 錢 呢 , 埋 單 $120 有 找 , 在 疫 情 期 間 , 加 上 俄 烏 戰 爭 , 影 響 到 墨 爾 本 物 價 高 昇 , 所 以 算 是 平 宜 抵 吃 了 。
我 們 在 疫 情 受 苦 後 , 今 餐 吃 得 快 樂 , 算 是 稍 作 補 償 吧 !

To drive a fast, compact, driver-focused

In the past, your answer could have been
the 1 Series Coupe or even further back
in time, the 3 Series Coupe. Today, it is
certainly not the poised, large, and complex
4 Series and not the GT-sized 8 Series

The answer is The All-New M240i xDrive
Coupe.
The M240i xDrive Coupe, which is allwheel
drive and more modestly powered,
is probably the sweetest-driving car of the
lot for regular people. It does manage to
capture the essential feeling with more
violence and flamboyance.
The car is considerably larger than
before in all areas, but still manageable and
relatively small at 4.5-metres, in an age
where a 3 Series is 4.7-metres.

transmission, brakes, steering wheel, sport
seats, 20-inch wheels, and a lot of other
things.
The car drives brilliantly. Firstly it is wider
and longer, but the car does not feel too
huge. Secondly, the steering and chassis
response is very much that of a small car,
direct and communicative. Third, it rides very
well for a small, sporty coupe.
That sets it up for driver popularity. Unlike
some cars, whose mode shifts engender a
scary, schizophrenic personality change, as
you shift from Comfort to Sport, the M240i’s
character stays the same but it simply goes
harder and faster in a pleasingly analog way.
To go fast in some cars you need to build
it up slowly. The M240i is happy to take you
along the route to Faster, letting you know
what it needs or does not along the way,
and it is communicative. An incisive car can
sometimes mean it is twitchy, and not easy
to drive, but all-wheel drive certainly helps
here. The inline six cylinder’s petrol engine
285kW of power and 500Nm of torque on
any coupe of these dimensions would be
quite a handful.
It rides bumps very sweetly, remains unfussed
over fast undulations, and cruises
quietly and effortlessly thanks to a fair
amount of low-end torque (max torque of
500Nm is on tap from just 1,900rpm).
And when the tarmac starts to meander,
the car is very keen to change direction,
even with the adaptive dampers at their
softest. Thank the M240i’s near-perfect
50/50 weight distribution and low centre of
gravity for that.
The nose responds eagerly to
the quick, linear steering, welljudged
steering weight, and
generous feedback through the
rim to keep you clued in on the
road surface below and the state
of the tyres’ grip.
Dial things up to Sport
Plus mode and things get
commensurately more grinworthy.
The car’s considerable
heft appears to be of no

consequence because it darts and dances
through bends like a true lightweight.
The car is equally entertaining down the
straights – the 8-speed auto box responds
with instantaneous urgency to paddle-shift
commands, and the 3-litre straight-6 is pure
music as it howls to its 6,500rpm redline.
A century sprint time of 4.3 seconds is
thrillingly quick of course, but how it gets you
there is just as exhilarating.
The M240i goes quickly but it also slows
quickly – the brakes (4-piston fixed calipers
at the front and single-piston floating calipers
at the rear) are massively strong.
Equally importantly, the pedal feel is
reassuringly firm and progressive, allowing
the driver to very precisely meter out the
braking force when hurtling towards a turn,
or even for subtly-judged left-foot braking to
trim the line mid-bend, if that’s your style.
It does not utterly disdain the mundane as
a super-car does, and it should be decently
practical if you have sensible expectations.
We cannot tell you much about the rear
seats or the boot since nobody was stupid
enough to sit in the back, and we were not
silly enough to carry anything sizeable in the
boot. The spec sheet says 390-litres, which
is more than we expected.
