Power and Serving
The Queen passed away at the age of 96. Many of
us in remembrance of her being part of growing up.
The Queen was born whilst Britain was on the
decline. The Commonwealth was formed as Britain
allowed her colonies to become independent after the
WWI. After WWII the Queen became the guardian of
these independent countries in different forms. The
Commonwealth has been playing a role in terms of
culture, education, economy, health and international
cooperation. This has made the Queen respectable,
not because she is the head of the monarchy, but
because she was serving in the name of a master.
The Emperor in China was meant to be appointed
by the heaven. The prolonged conservative
governance of China in the absence of legal and
democratic input has made Chinese corrupted with
power. In China, a photo shot with a national leader
could make people feel that you are privileged with
power. Chinese in Australia also seek opportunities to
get close with political figures for raising self-esteem.
This reflects their misconception of power.
Actually the Queen has very limited power. In
1215 King John signed the Magna Carta where the
royal rights were contained by the nobles and
religious leaders. To date the British King does not
has any power to rule, with the democratically elected
Prime Minister in place. The King signifies power, his
appointment of the PM is the transfer of his power in
effect. The King serves as the centre of all nationals;
hence the people do not need to serve the one in
power who instead should be the one serving the
public who elected him into power. By this, the power
and the one in power will not get corrupted in time.
Truly there have been dictators who had been
elected and supported by the people. Both Hitler of
Nazi Germany and then Mussolini in Italy were elected
into power; they made themselves totalitarians
through their own legislative changes. Western
countries usually put a limit on the serving years a
single ruler can hold, Communist China had also made
10 years as the cap.
Australian ex-PM Morrison had unnoticeably
appointed himself five ministerial authorities during
the pandemic. Public opinions regarded that
centralisation of power as unacceptable.
The Bible tells an Emperor’s power comes from
God to remind people in power that people under his
rule do not belong to him in total. The Queen’s life
also reminds the world that the figure of power can
only get support from the people because she has
been serving her people.

Mazda3 G25 Astina hatch

Those who demand more from their
daily driver now have an answer. The
Astina represents the top-of-the-range
Mazda 3 available with a sunroof and
adaptive LED headlights, while inside it
is the only model to feature attractive
burgundy leather seats and trim.
Standard features on the Astina also
active cruise control, dual-zone climate
control, leather upholstery, a head-up
display, keyless entry and ignition, a
power-adjustable driver’s seat, heated
front seats, a heated steering wheel, 12-
speaker Bose audio, glass sunroof.
Our test car, the G25 Astina, is a
quality-looking hatch packed with
equipment and refinement for any style
of urban driving. For the hatch range it
starts at $39,190 (manual) plus on-road
cost and $40,190 (auto) plus on-road
cost.
What should I be excited about?
Only a few words are needed to
describe the new Mazda3 G25 Astina
hatch: Exceptional quality, premium
feel, and pleasing on the eyes.
Let's start with how it looks. The hatch
is elegantly styled, with flowing lines and
sculptural shapes. Overall Mazda rarely
gets its designs wrong and the Mazda3
is no different with its ability to be
pleasant to the eyes. The front end has
been sharpened thanks to sleek
adaptive LED headlights and a grille
grille that’s familiar from the facelifted
Mazda6.
Moving inside the car and you’re
immediately struck by a high sense of
overall premium fit and finish. The
cabin is well appointed, packing ample
equipment such as a digital 7.0-inch
TFT display that takes care of trip
computer functionality, a new 8.0-inch
infotainment display controlled via a
rotary knob-style commander control,
and a head-up display which Mazda
calls an ‘Active Driving Display.
This particular top-spec Astina trim
also gets extra goodies such as a 12-
speaker Bose sound system, gear shift
pedals on the steering wheel, and the
aforementioned factory-fitted full
leather burgundy upholstery.
Build quality is also top-notch. The
stitching and seams are crisp, and the
overall design of the cabin certainly
has an air of elevated quality for a
Japanese car. It feels much more
premium than its price point would
suggest.
How does it feel on the road?
On the road, there is an overall sense
of maturity and premium road
composure to the new Mazda3. The
well-sorted suspension plays a big role
in this.

The car manages to soak up bumps in
the road with no fuss at all, while still
exhibiting a level of ride neutrality and
quietness usually associated with more
expensive cars. The Mazda3 hatch also
handles itself well around corners. The
steering is accurate and the chassis is tight
and well-balanced.
Mazda has also packed the car with the
full i-Activsense suite of safety and driver
assistance systems (the most you can get in
any Mazda right now). This Astina spec
model gets everything - Front Cross Traffic
Alert, Blind Spot Monitoring with Rear Cross
Traffic Alert, 360-degree reverse-view
Camera, Lane-keep Assist System, Lane
Departure Warning System, Driver
Monitoring, the tech, and feature list goes
on and all these features can be activated
via the push of one button.
Of note is the Mazda Radar Cruise
Control, a feature you would not find on
any other cars in this class. It allows the
driver to set a maximum cruise speed and
following distance, and the car will
automatically keep that fixed distance with
the car in front of you. This is especially
useful for extended highway driving,
though you still need to be alert because
the system cuts off when you drop below
30km/h.
The Mazda3 G25 is powered by a 2.5-
litre naturally aspirated engine producing
only 139kW of power at 6,000rpm and
252Nm of torque at 4,000rpm. The
drivetrain is mated to a six-speed torque
converter automatic transmission with
paddle shifters on the steering wheel and a
selectable sport mode. The sport mode
does little for response in regular city
driving.
If you drive in a relaxed manner, the
engine is refined and usable enough with a
light throttle. However, put your foot right
on the floor, and you are greeted with very
little. The car feels rather hefty at close to
1,400kg, and the lack of power from the
engine makes this even more apparent.
The steering is on the heavy side - great
for high-speed stability, but at low speeds,
it can be a little tiring, especially when you
need to go from lock to lock when driving in
a multi-story carpark.
The brakes also lack bite in the initial
travel, so you’ll want to use the stop pedal a
little more enthusiastically. We also think
the car could do with one extra gear.
Equipped with a six-speed automatic, the
Mazda3 sits at 2,000rpm when cruising at
90km/h.
Does it succeed as an overall package?
The new Mazda3 G25 Astina hatch feels
premium and with a high-quality build. In
our opinion, this makes it interchangeable
with some of the entry German models
without too much difference. For a car that
starts from $39,190 plus on-road costs, that
is one hell of a deal.
Yes, the car has some issues in its lack of
pace, but the entirety of the package still
delivers plenty to delight customers.
With its combination of stylish design,
ample equipment, cabin quality, ride
comfort, and on-road refinement, the
Mazda3 G25 Astina delivers plenty of bang
for your buck. For many customers, the
new model is at the very least worth a test
drive at the Mazda dealership.
A bonus is that all Mazda vehicles now
offer a five-year, unlimited kilometre
warranty with service intervals occurring
every 12 months or 10,000km, whichever
comes first.
For the Mazda3 G25 Astina over five
years, it will cost $1,762. That is five
services, at an average of $352 per service
every 12 months or 10,000km. For peace of
mind, the Mazda3 maintains its five-star
occupant safety rating from ANCAP.
