Morning Session<br />
This session will allow for four short presentations (25 minutes) by each of the<br />
representative companies on the surgical and biological features and benefits<br />
that the respective <strong>des</strong>igns bring to clinical practice.<br />
A moderated question period will follow each presentation as well as at the end<br />
of the morning, allowing attendees an opportunity to ask significant questions<br />
of these participants in an interactive environment.<br />
Afternoon Session<br />
This session will allow for four short presentations (25 minutes) by each of the<br />
representative companies on the biomechanical and prosthetic features that the<br />
respective <strong>des</strong>igns bring to clinical practice.<br />
Esthetic and functional aspects will be highlighted.<br />
A moderated question period will follow each presentation as well as at the end<br />
of the afternoon, allowing attendees an opportunity to ask significant questions<br />
of these participants in an interactive environment.<br />
Dr. Harold S. Baumgarten received his dental degree, as well as Certificates in Periodontal<br />
Prosthetics and Periodontics, from the University of Pennsylvania, School of Dental Medicine. He<br />
is affiliated with the Academy of Osseointegration and the American Academy of Periodontology.<br />
He is also a Clinical Professor with the Department of Periodontics at the University of Pennsylvania<br />
and maintains a private practice in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.<br />
Dr. Lyndon F. Cooper is the Stallings Distinguished Professor of Dentistry of the Department of<br />
Prosthodontics at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He is currently Chairperson and<br />
acting Director of Gra<strong>du</strong>ate Prosthodontics and the director of the Bone Biology and Implant<br />
Therapy Laboratory. Dr. Cooper is a Diplomate of the American Board of Prosthodontics and serves<br />
as President of the American College of Prosthodontics Board of Directors. He received the 2004<br />
Clinician/Researcher Award by the ACP. Dr. Cooper’s laboratory focuses on bone biology, a<strong>du</strong>lt stem<br />
cell bone regeneration, and clinical evaluation of dental implant therapies. The laboratory receives<br />
funding through NIH and by in<strong>du</strong>stry collaboration. Their research findings have been presented in<br />
over 70 publications and in more than 200 national and international presentations. These efforts<br />
integrate basic and clinical research to improve patient care.<br />
Dr. Joseph Kan completed his specialty training in Advanced Prosthodontics and a Master degree<br />
from the Advanced Implant Dentistry from Loma Linda University School of Dentistry (LLUSD) in 1997.<br />
He is currently a Professor in the Department of Restorative Dentistry and the research coordinator<br />
for the Implant Dentistry Program in LLUSD. He also maintains a private practice limited to<br />
Prosthodontics and Implant Surgery. Dr. Kan is on the Periodontology/Implantology Editorial Board of<br />
the Practical Periodontics & Aesthetic Dentistry. He is a member of the Academy of Osseointegration,<br />
American College of Prosthodontists, American Academy of Fixed Prosthodontics and an associate<br />
member of the Pacific Coast Society of Prosthodontists. Dr. Kan is one of few clinicians worldwide that<br />
had been trained in both the surgical and restorative discipline of implant dentistry. Besi<strong>des</strong> lecturing<br />
both nationally and internationally, he has published over 40 articles in reference journals and<br />
chapters in textbooks.<br />
