«Tante volte quello che manca alle persone sono la tolleranza e il<br />
rispetto per gli altri, valori che sicuramente sono alla base <strong>di</strong> qualsiasi<br />
rapporto interpersonale. Quin<strong>di</strong> se mi facessero la domanda “Perché<br />
Samanta hai scelto <strong>di</strong> andare in <strong>Cina</strong>?” io risponderei semplicemente: per<br />
imparare e per crescere ».<br />

In a school «<strong>di</strong>ary» all the beauty of the souls of our students<br />
It was very exciting to meet the students and the teachers of the High school<br />
«Liceo Citta’ <strong>di</strong> <strong>Piero</strong>» of Sansepolcro at the airport in Beijing. They were on a<br />
study-trip in Shijiazhuang, the capital of the province of Hebei, in China.<br />
In the eyes of those young people I read the enthusiasm, the excitement, the fearthat<br />
«positive» fear as Samanta writes in her school <strong>di</strong>ary-that accompanied the<br />
awareness of participating in a marvelous adventure, in <strong>di</strong>scovering a country that<br />
is so faraway with so much unknown about its history, culture, tra<strong>di</strong>tions and a<br />
lifestyle that is so <strong>di</strong>fferent from ours. A country that arouses an immense curiosity<br />
in all of us, as often happens when we compare things that are so strange and<br />
<strong>di</strong>fferent from each other.<br />
«What and how many experiences will there be and will they remain engraved in<br />
my mind, without me being aware of them?» Noemi wonders when thinking<br />
about such an intense experience, each student living it in their own way, but with<br />
the certainty that it will remain engraved in their minds as an unforgettable memory.<br />
They are reflections that have thrilled me and touched me at the same time, because<br />
this school <strong>di</strong>ary contains all the beauty of the souls of our students, all their<br />
expressive strength.<br />
I am even happier to have met the students of this Tuscan high school when I <strong>di</strong>d,<br />
in the moment in which we were getting to know a great and fascinating country.<br />
I send my most affectionate greetings to all of them, to the teachers and the<br />
Principal of the high school «Liceo Cittta’ <strong>di</strong> <strong>Piero</strong>» together with an applause for<br />
this splen<strong>di</strong>d initiative and the encouragement to continue on a road that leads to<br />
the <strong>di</strong>scovery and the knowledge of places, people and cultures that are <strong>di</strong>fferent<br />
from ours.
