Potremmo salutare
Abstract
China is a great and mysterious country that for centuries has remained on the edge of
western history. Now that it is becoming more and more of an economic power, many are
wondering how it will effect future world equilibrium. Its transformation began in 1978
when Den Xiaoping granted the Chinese people economic freedom and the “open door
policy” towards foreign investments was put into effect, helped by low cost production.
China is, therefore, achieving the greatest economic progress in history, obtaining a
forefront position in world economy.
All this has brought a sudden and radical change in the customs and ways of thinking in
the country. The assumption of western values contrasts “modus vivendi” to the traditional
Chinese culture. Accentuated by the policy of having only one child, the crisis of ancient
values corrodes first of all the family, which was also the base of social relationships and
the state, even in the Maoist period. In the work and business world China is ascending
rapidly and is a truly “young universe”. The Chinese above a certain level of income and,
those who have emerged and made fortunes, have an average age of 46,5 years. They can
be divided into two categories: people loyal to the political party and business tycoons,
often self made men. Wealth is displayed: there is a run to purchasing material goods and
