Un Numero Speciale del Notiziario, <strong>in</strong> <strong>in</strong>glese, de<strong>di</strong>cato al primo Meet<strong>in</strong>g delle delegazioni<br />
<strong>di</strong> esperti dell’<strong>Istituto</strong> <strong>Superiore</strong> <strong>di</strong> Sanità (ISS) e del Cana<strong>di</strong>an Institutes of Health Research<br />
(CIHR). L’<strong>in</strong>contro, svoltosi <strong>il</strong> 9 apr<strong>il</strong>e 2008, è stato preceduto dalla firma, <strong>il</strong> 13 novembre 2007, <strong>di</strong> un “Memorandum of<br />
Understand<strong>in</strong>g” (MOU) da parte del Presidente dell’ISS, Enrico Garaci, e dal Presidente del CIHR, Alan Bernste<strong>in</strong>. L’accordo<br />
mira a <strong>in</strong>crementare e ad espandere la collaborazione tra i due Istituti <strong>in</strong> quattro aree : tumori, malattie <strong>in</strong>fettive, vacc<strong>in</strong>i<br />
(ant<strong>in</strong>fettivi e antitumorali) e cellule stam<strong>in</strong>ali.<br />

Il Notiziario ospita nel Supplemento <strong>di</strong> giugno 2008 <strong>il</strong> quarto numero “Malattie rare e farmaci orfani”,<br />
a cura del Centro Nazionale Malattie Rare (CNMR) dell’<strong>Istituto</strong> <strong>Superiore</strong> <strong>di</strong> Sanità (ISS). Rivolto<br />
a me<strong>di</strong>ci <strong>di</strong> me<strong>di</strong>c<strong>in</strong>a generale, pe<strong>di</strong>atri, responsab<strong>il</strong>i socio-sanitari regionali e nazionali, pazienti<br />
e associazioni <strong>di</strong> pazienti e, più <strong>in</strong> generale, a tutti gli operatori impegnati nel settore, affronta<br />
le <strong>di</strong>verse tematiche legate alle malattie rare e ai farmaci orfani e ne <strong>il</strong>lustra le novità scientifiche. La prima parte del<br />
Supplemento affronta un tema delicato e centrale nella ricerca cl<strong>in</strong>ica: <strong>il</strong> ruolo dei pazienti nella sperimentazione cl<strong>in</strong>ica<br />
e la d<strong>in</strong>amica tra questi e <strong>il</strong> me<strong>di</strong>co-ricercatore. Altri articoli riguardano: EUROPLAN - <strong>il</strong> progetto europeo per le malattie<br />
rare, <strong>il</strong> bando per la ricerca <strong>in</strong><strong>di</strong>pendente dell’Agenzia Italiana del Farmaco, <strong>il</strong> Registro Regionale delle malattie rare <strong>in</strong><br />
Lombar<strong>di</strong>a.<br />
