rodriquez Cantieri Navali do Brasil
has delivered to the Brazilian shipping
company Barcas two of the
three catamarans that were under construction
at the Niterói shipyard in Rio
de Janeiro. The first, Zeus I, was handed
over on 10 December, the second,
Apolo I, on 24 January. Both vessels are
catamarans in the CityCat 29 series and
will see service on the route linking
Rio de Janeiro to Charitas, a residential
suburb in the bay of Guanabara.
Rodriquez Cantieri Navali do Brasil was
founded in Rio in 2002 after the signing
of a contract with the Barcas SA
shipping company for the construction
of ten aluminum catamarans. As the
contract for this order specified that
they should be built in Brazil, Rodriquez
constructed a new shipyard in Niterói,
which opened in August 2003. It now
employs about 300 people, including
specialized staff and workers.
The two catamarans Zeus I and Apolo
I are built entirely built of aluminum
