For the 150 th anniversary of
Italian Unity, the most lively,
disorderly and complex years in
the entire 20 th century celebrated
in Ravenna. L’Italia s’è desta (Italy
has awoken: 1945-1953. Italian
art after World War II, from De
Chirico to Guttuso, from Fontana
to Burri) at the MAR, art museum
in Ravenna, from 13 th February
to 26 th June. One hundred and
seventy works to evoke that
precious handful of years that
redesigned the Peninsula from
the end of the second world
war through to Picasso’s great
exhibition held in Rome and Milan
in 1953. A fresco of the feverish
and creative search for freedom
through new suggestions and
stylistic forms. Many movements
– New Art Front, the Forma 1
group, Nuclear Art and Abstract
Art – are represented by the most
illustrious artists: Afro, Burri,
Guttuso, Leoncillo, Perilli, De
Chirico, Vedova, Carol Rama,
Sironi and Balla.
