Therefore two years ago a cooperation project “Risk Factors, their Assessment and Management in Agricultureof Latvia” financed by Latvian Academy of Science was initiated.Several faculties of the Latvia University of Agriculture, namely, Faculty of Economics, Faculty of Agriculture,Faculty of Food Technology, Faculty of Information Technologies, Faculty of Rural Engineering and Faculty ofVeterinary Medicine and Faculty of Engineering and Economics of the Riga Technical University and a company“Dati” participate in the implementation of the project. The methodology of risk management, risk factors of plantand animal health and plant protection, food safety or hazardousness risks, environmental risks, economicopportunities and threats of risks un risk assessment are under the research.The scientists involved in the implementation of subprojects already have the results of research that couldnot only be included as a report into a special web site, but they also have scientific publications. Consequentlythe cooperation project council under the management of Pēteris Rivža, professor and vice-rector of Science ofLatvia University of Agriculture decided to prepare special issues (editions) on the theme of riskology under theProceedings of Latvia University of Agriculture. This is the first issue (edition) of the proceedings on riskologywhere the articles by many cooperation project participants are included. The papers dwell upon several directionsof research:– on general methods of risk administration and management;– on risk related to the use of land;– on risks related to the protection of field crops and forests;– on financial risks;– on economic risks caused by low quality food;– on tourism risk management.The content of articles included into this issue of the Proceedings may be interesting to other researchers ofriskology, teaching staff and students of Latvia University of Agriculture and other educational establishments,state administration institutions staff, consultation services and other persons interested.The articles for the second special edition of the Proceedings of Latvia University of Agriculture on the themeof risks are currently under preparation.Prof. K.
