Frans Goetghebeur Nationaal Voorzitter van de Boeddhistische Unie van België en sinds dertig jaar verbonden
aan de Tibetaanse instituten van Schoten, Brussel, Huy en Cadzand. Als romanist werkte hij
jarenlang in het secundair onderwijs. Hij ijvert voor een actieve interlevensbeschouwelijke
dialoog en heeft naast vele artikelen in tijdschriften ook enkele boeken gepubliceerd die
telkens in de beide landstalen verschenen: “Alles verandert, beschouwingen over ethiek,
economie, wetenschap en boeddhisme in deze tijd” (2003); “De dood, een metgezel voor het
leven” (2005); “Wakker worden met Boeddha” (2006). Hij neemt deel aan publieke
debatten en concentreert zich voornamelijk op de vraag naar het statuut van spiritualiteit in
opvoeding, cultuur, kunst, wetenschap en politiek.

Knut Graw Has conducted doctoral research in Syria, Senegal, and Gambia on the cultural logic and
significance of local ritual and hermeneutic practices. Having taken dream experience and
interpretation as its point of departure, research has come to include divinatory praxis in
general, including different forms of divination such as cowrie-shell divination and
geomancy. These investigations resulted in the defence of his doctoral thesis 'The
Emergence of the Present: A Phenomenological Study of Divination, Time, and the Subject
in Senegal and Gambia' (Unpublished doctoral thesis, Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, 2005).
Drawing on the analysis of divinatory consultations, life-histories, and the phenomenological
properties of the divinatory process, his study shows that divination is not just an abstract
search for knowledge but a highly performative cultural praxis that concerns the cultural
subject in several most fundamental ways. At the same time, the cultural analysis of
divinatory praxis highlights the fact that divination is at no time a merely 'traditional'
phenomenon but a dynamic alternative technology of hope that inscribes itself in a
postcolonial and globalising world of rapid change and transformation. Next to its topical
focus on local hermeneutic practices (divination, dream interpretation, diagnosis, etc), Knut
Graw's research is marked by a pronounced interest in questions of postcolonial
inter/subjectivity, Islam, religious experience, cultural globalization, phenomenological
anthropology, as well as cultural theory in general. Field research has been carried out in
West Africa (Senegal and Gambia) from 2002 to 2004, as well as in the Middle East (Syria) in
2000/2001. Beyond the topical focus on local hermeneutic practices (dream interpretation,
divination, diagnosis), research interests include questions of postcolonial inter/subjectivity,
Islam, religious experience, cultural globalization, medical, political and phenomenological
anthropology.
Christine Gruwez Drs. Christine Gruwez studeerde filosofie en Iranistiek. Is een zeer groot Iran kenner.
Thema’s in haar werk zijn naast boeken over Iran en de Perzisch cultuur, de dialogen tussen
religies en culturen. Zij publiceerde als cultuurfilosoof en antroposoof o.a. ook over het
christendom, de islam en het manicheïsme. Enkele van haar boeken – die de
verscheidenheid in haar denken aan tonen zijn “God is kleur. Ontoetingen met het
