EUROPEAN SHORT FILM COMPETITION
De Europese competitie neemt een belangrijke plaats in op “Leuven Kort” en geniet op internationaal vlak een
steeds grotere bekendheid en waardering. Dat merken we onder meer aan het hoge aantal inzendingen. Niet
minder dan 450 regisseurs uit alle uithoeken van Europa legden hun kortfilm voor aan het programmatieteam. We
selecteerden voor u de 20 beste films.
The European competition plays an important part at “Leuven Kort” and continues to grow more famous and valued
internationally. This is clear only from the number of entrances: no less than 450 directors from all over Europe gave
out their short film for competition. We selected the 20 best films for you.

PERFECTION (Colm McCarthy)

Fysica-genie Mr. Grove worstelt met een ‘Perfectietheorie’. Wanneer hij er niet in
slaagt om het bewijs te leveren dat de wereld fundamenteel geordend en betekenisvol
is, beslist Grove zelfmoord te plegen. Soms hebben de krachten van het universum
echter andere plannen...
Physics genius Mr. Grove is grappling with a ‘Theory of Perfection’. When he fails to
demonstrate that the universe is fundamentally meaningful, Grove decides to commit
suicide. But sometimes the powers in the universe have other plans...

ALICE ET MOI (Micha Wald)
België / 2004 / 19 min
Simon moet zijn oude tante Mala en diens twee vriendinnen, Lydia en Colette, naar de
kust brengen. Tijdens de rit belt zijn vriendin, Alice, hem op. Het gesprek mondt uit in
een discussie. De bemoeizucht van de drie Joodse grootmoeders leidt uiteraard niet
tot oplossingen.
Simon has to drive his old aunt Mala and two of her friends, Lydia and Colette, to the
seaside. While driving, he gets a call from his girlfriend, Alice, which turns into an argument.
Being the Jewish grandmothers that they are, the three women slowly interfere.
This, of course, doesn’t solve anything.
